I picked up some new readers on a friending frenzy in an LJ comm that was created for people to escape Tumblr angst.

Hello, new people! I thought I'd explain my journaling style a little so you can decide if this is your bag or not and if not you can peace-out early with no time investment (or hard feelings!).

The vast majority of my LJ is me talking about my exciting adventures in health. I have quite the assortment of oddities to my DNA that certainly make my life interesting. I have Hashimoto's disease, issues with adrenal fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome (I think for me they're the same thing); some as-of-yet-undiagnosed systemic allergic/inflammatory response to any sort of food; and pretty much every hormone in my body that can be too low, too high, or in any way sort of fucked up is fucked up. I've been managing my heath issues (for variable definitions of the term "manage") for over ten years. I have to deal with them constantly--there is not an aspect of my life that isn't negatively influenced by my health crap at some level--and occasionally I fall down into a pity puddle, but I do my best to avoid staying there for long. But I do talk about my N=1 experiments a lot. And honestly, why do I have so many people reading about that stuff? I have no fucking clue but I'm glad they're all here.

I also talk about the stuff I do to fight my health issues. I lift heavy weights. I dance. I do yoga. I stick to a pretty strict anti-inflammatory eating plan. I do my best to stay somewhat active all day, every day, even though I spend Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm at a desk job. I post a lot of links to lifehacks for helping to develop general movement habits as well as improving specific strength movements.

I use a lot of gifs.

Nearly every Tuesday, I post a themed collection to my Tumblr.

I don't talk about fandom or fandom stuff unless I'm talking about a personal experience of mine--reactions to shows, participation at a con, etc. I'm the polar opposite of a Big Name Fan and ain't nobody coming to my journal to shoptalk about fannish things. I certainly don't mind talking that if someone brings it up in comments, but if you're hoping for a fan-oriented blog this is probably not your party. S'cool.

I am pretty hardcore politically progressive. I still embrace the term "feminism" (although I completely understand and respect why many WOC don't). I am not friends with people who don't support my basic political beliefs. It's fine to not see eye-to-eye on some points, but if someone doesn't support my rights to my own body, or my freedom to love whom I want? Nope. Can't be friends. I won't be outright rude or uncivil to acquaintances (unless they don't afford me the same courtesy), but I don't consider them to be friends. Nope. Sorry not sorry.

I'm an atheist with a degree in Religious Studies. And I honestly don't know which affected the other more. I think it's a chicken-and-the-egg thing.

I talk waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much.

I friended you prior to the friending meme and got a lot of this from just context and inference, but it's nice of you to lay it all out like that for the uninitiated and awkwardly curious. And not that I'm surprised, but we are hardcore aligned on the personal politics. I'd suspected that anyway (even before the shitty SCOTUS decisions) but when you lay it all out, it reads like political MBTI almost. :)

I'm another politically progressive feminist with Hashimoto's. *fist bump* I too take a similar stance to blogging in my own space- it's definitely not fandom-oriented.

My wonky thyroid has not been pleasant to deal with and I have had issues getting my health on track, so I look forward to reading what you share about all of that. Kudos to you for doing what you can to take care of yourself.

Hi Clever, I'm very happy to read about health. I practice yoga too. It keeps me sane and serene. As I age, I think it's good for my body too.

I'm really glad you did this intro post - I never actually knew about the whys of your health issues and why you have to work so hard to manage your health. I get it and damn girl, you are seriously inspirational. That's why we read. It'd be kinda easy to just say "I give up" instead of lifting and doing yoga and all the things that you're doing.

Aw, thanks! It's a great and humbling thing to be told I'm inspirational.
