Moving right along!

Does anyone still make the 3D cameras (and required film) that produces this sort of picture? Not the wiggling part--that is really annoying. But just the 3D image. Because seriously...want.

After Monday's baked chicken fiasco, I'm left wondering if these home rotisserie ovens really work. Anyone know?

I had time to eat breakfast and measure my waist afterward this morning. I went from 28.25 inches to 29.5 after eating a half a cup of an avocado/banana/coconut mixture post-workout (I know--[livejournal.com profile] mckitterick didn't like it, either). Not as bad as the three to four inches I'd puff up post-meal before going primal/paleo, but an inch-and-then-some is more than should be happening after such a small meal. I'm going to try it again Saturday with a protein-and-fat-heavy breakfast to see if there's any difference.

A week from today I get my second skinfold test! I'm excited to see how my numbers changed from July. My August test got canceled due to a scheduling conflict on the part of the tester, so it'll have been two months! I should hope to see major changes.

I want some sort of style to my hair. It's long enough to style now, and I'm tired of this all-one-length business. So, a poll!

[Poll #1610533]

To anyone (edit: To anyone except [livejournal.com profile] stuology) who marks the third option: I accept cash, check, or Paypal.

My sister and I have suffered from the same ailment our entire lives...it's called IWANTMYHAIRCUTNOWNOMATTERWHAT syndrome.

*sigh*

I can see that you do not have this affliction as of yet, but I beg of you, before it's too late...put down the scissors and seek professional help. You're too far in your progress to potentially regress or *gasp!* relapse now.

I'll pray for you.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha ha ha ha ha! This is awesome.

I just desperately want a style. I even have a vague notion of what style I want while I wait for things to get long enough for that Lindsay Lohan/Brigette Bardot fluffy long layers thing. But after shelling out for the trainer, acupuncture, and rolfing, my finances are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Some cash is coming to me during opening weekend of KCRF, but I'd like to get it cut before then so I have some time to play around with up-dos beforehand.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
^^
Oh man, do I know that syndrome.

That comment is definitely made of Win.

[identity profile] thefox-rb.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. The more people we graduate from our support group, the better. The rent on that building is inflated, just like the leader's ego from last week...sheesh...haughty twat thought she'd JUST "take a little off the bangs...no biggie...it's just a little trim..."...and guess where I saw her 2 hours later????????????

DOING A WALK-IN AT FANTASTIC SAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is N.O.T.H.I.N.G. "fantastic" about Sam.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)

WELL, Clutch ma pearls!~

I have to confess, I have done walk-ins at Pro Cuts.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahahaha!

First time I cut my hair, I was six. My stepdad displayed the early stages of male pattern baldness, with a widow's peak that stretched nearly to the top of his head. He was my dad, so I thought I should look like him. *snip-snip*

My mother was Not Pleased.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
My mother was Not Pleased.

I think you can say that about most of your childhood exploits.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I might still have the photo from the first time I cut my hair as well. It went from going to the middle of my back to being as short as Jay's hair is now.

I don't remember if I cut it quite that short, but my mother hacked it off since I decided to cut it to "teach me a lesson." The photo is of me crying because I had boy hair. It worked I guess because I never did it again.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It worked I guess because I never did it again

I bet you're a much kinder parent. And find more interesting ways to discourage behaviors. This makes me sad!

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It does make me a little sad how much of my parenting philosophy is based on Not Being Like My Mother.

However, I know I'm not the only one in history to ever have that philosophy. And I made it out of my childhood alive and a somewhat productive and okay member of society, so eh, whatever.

(Ada has cut her own hair. Twice. That's how she ended up with her first haircut, as featured in this icon. I didn't make her cry though.)

[identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Well, my son cut his hair, and the evidence was on the kitchen table, and in the hacked side of his hair.

"Oh I didn't cut it. The Magic Hand Did."

::whack!:: "pass that on to the Magic Hand next time you see him." OK, I was not a very sweet, sympathetic mom. And I left his hair that way until the next haircut, too.

[identity profile] cskippy2000.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't had a real haircut in five years. Every six months or so I grab it by the end and cut a hunk off. If it were that simple for you, I'd say go for it, but you missed the fourth option: I will gladly give you a haircut for free. I should warn you, I only have kitchen shears, but I'll clean off the bits of chicken first.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like a scene from one of your movies. *shudder*

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Annoyingly, there's an iPhone app for 3D pix, I'll bet they used that.
However, I found a Fuji 3D camera (http://www.fujifilm.com/products/3d/camera/finepix_real3dw1/). Ahem, I see it's not priced, and I'm afraid to look for that.

You know, my countertop oven has a rotisserie and I've never tried it! Heck, I always figured it was easier to pick up a $5 Checkers or HyVee chicken.

Hairs.
Boy, do I understand that one. I'm going to have to grow mine out a bit more so I can tie it back in the sports car. Ah shucks, poor me.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That picture looks old, though. Like late 60s early 70s, based on her dress and hair and the coloring. Of course, maybe they 'shopped it to have that tint and texture.

I love the rotisserie chickens at the stores, too, but I'm not sure what they put in/on them for flavorings. I know at least one of the types at Dillon's has honey. I'm not convinced that the others don't have sugar, or possibly corn syrup. I found out the number one ingredient in the rub used on the rotisserie ribs at Checkers was sugar. That was a bummer.

While your hair is growing out, we have lots of baseball caps you could borrow if J doesn't have extras. Heck, I wear a ball cap in our convertible even with my hair pulled back.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Aye, there's an app for that vintage look (http://hipstamaticapp.com/) as well. Bloody iPhones!

I more worry about the additives like excessive salt in the chickens (and that weird texture Dillon's has, wtf do they do to theirs?).
Are you giving up sugar for good, in everything?

Baseball caps? Oh dear. I look awful in a baseball cap, plus when I get to work, there's that godawful Bozo pouf to my hair. (And I'd not encourage the J to keep his habit of wearing nothing but them. I got him to unload about a dozen of his giant collection already. )

I wore one of my beaded-efge triangular scarves this morning, ala Jackie O. I hope it looked as chic as it felt.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you giving up sugar for good, in everything

Except for very rare occasions, yes. All refined sugar, in any amount, is off my menu. This includes all sugary cocktails, too. =/

Oooh! A scarf! Much nicer.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, the moving of that image that you're linking to is what is creating the illusion of the 3D effect.

You can create stereoscopic 3D images with a regular camera and a little patience. You can also create a 3D effect that almost makes a scene look like a miniature with what is called a tilt-shift lens that does selective focus. Kind of like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/macwisler/3913985773/

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)

Dang.

Didn't there used to be a 3D camera, though? Or am I pulling that memory from an alternate universe...

Edit: Also! Lady, you are not even employed! You are not paying for my haircut!!!!

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I have shears, but dude, you do not want me to cut your hair. And I know how badly I'd cut my own hair. I just deal with my hair until I can afford to pay someone that knows what they are doing and can see the back of my head without an elaborate set up of mirrors.

There are 3D cameras, such as the ginormous ones that shoot for IMAX, but those are huge. And the ones that shot your tv shows and movies that require special glasses.

The one that roya linked to just does in one camera a lot more easily what you can do with any camera, patience and photoshop. The only deal with the Fuji camera is that you will need a special display to see it the 3D. You won't be able to just upload it to Flickr for me to see the 3D goodness with my laptop. Fuji is using the same techniques that the new non-glasses 3D tvs use--creating a barrier for light so that two different type of light or images are seen by the right and left eye, as opposed to a 2D image where the same light and image are being seen by both eyes.

All 3D images are created by tricking your brain. I'm sure you can get, and have been able to get, cameras that help you perform all the brain tricks with minimal effort, whether you need special glasses or not. I'd have to Google to find out more about them though.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Gracious. It all sounds like a lot more work than I care to invest. I'll leave the fancy photography to you, I think.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Aren't most 3D-like images (such as this one) simply compilation shots from several cameras, slightly spaced apart? As with The Matrix?

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You only need two for the simple stereoscopic 3D shot, which is why you can do it with your own camera. You don't even need two cameras to make a still 3D. The key would be taking both shots at the same angle, just slightly moving the camera horizontally. A tripod, some tape and the knowledge to use manual settings on your camera so that the exposure and white balance are exactly the same will do the trick.

The Fuji makes it easy by having two lenses and two sensors, so the same photo is taken spaced just slightly apart with the same exposure and white balance since both photos are being taken at the exact same time.

The above could be made with a few cameras taking the shot at the same time, but you have to make it into an animated gif to get the 3D effect.

You could probably do an anaglyphic 3D shot with just one shot and Photoshop.

[identity profile] geekmom.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen instructions and a bracket for doing simple 3D shots with two cheapo Kodak zi8 cameras - it can also be used for video.

My mother has a rotisserie, and it makes the most delicious, moist chicken I've ever eaten. Go for it!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh! Good to know! What brand does she have?

[identity profile] queza7.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll shoot her an e-mail and get back to you.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you very much!

[identity profile] queza7.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
She has a Sunbeam brand rotisserie. She's had it for at least 7-8 years, possibly more, so they have a very good lifespan.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Super! Thanks for checking for me.

[identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
If you have any cowlicks at all, you could end up with a real mess.

Admission: I often cut my own hair. Defense: my hair is thin and limp and has no cowlicks, and I only cut straight lines. Even my hairdresser admitted that it was a pretty good job.

Still, "style" and "cut my own hair" are leagues apart.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Good point. I have many cowlicks, and one is right there in front.

Calling my salon right now. I'll just put it on the old credit card. I hope my old stylist still works there. It's been nearly a year since my last cut!

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
My DeLonghi convection toaster oven does rotisserie chicken and it's awesome.

It even does decent toast which is great since I don't have room for another kitchen appliance.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the recommendation!

[identity profile] rowangolightly.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
However....upon reading the Amazon reviews, I would not get this if your main purpose is rotisserie chicken. It doesn't turn them evenly. So if you find one that does a better job, that's what I'd do.

I use mine for...well, as a toaster oven.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Not what I need, then. Thanks for the clarification.

[identity profile] zhukora1.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I cut my own hair. But then, I'm kind of a dirty hippie like that, and my default styles basically consist of long and longer so I have a lot of room for error. The first time I got bangs done, I had them done by a pro (and/trimmed them further maintain them myself). If you just want something small like bangs put in with no trim on the length, a lot of salons will do that for really cheap. The place I went to did free bang trims for repeat customers, but since I was a new customer charged me $10 (a standard hair cut there was like $40+). $10, then bangs in perpetuity? Hard to argue with that kind of deal. ;) I felt a little bad about gaming the system though, which is partly why I just trim them myself.

Plus, there are lots of self-hair cutting/styling tutorials on youtube these days. If you've got some nice scissors and an ability to throw caution to the wind, you can do a lot of pretty neat stuff. ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll definitely keep that in mind for bangs maintenance.

I want long layers like what Lindsay Lohan has here (http://www.hollywoodnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/lindsay-lohan-med.jpg).

[identity profile] renniemom.livejournal.com 2010-08-25 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't read about last week's chicken fiasco, but have you tried the chicken in a bundt pan baking technique? Similar to chicken on a beer can only using the bundt pan as a base/stand. You can even stuff the chicken if you like. (Note: if the center post of the bundt pan is open put the whole thing on a cookie sheet to catch the drip throughs.)

And if $ before opening weekend is a Good Thing I can probably swing it Friday. :-)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-08-26 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't realize you could do that without the can of beer! Huh!

I'm just gonna put the haircut on my credit card and then pay it off after I deposit the chemise money after opening weekend. No special trips necessary! Thank you for the offer, though. Very kind!
