I won't bore everyone with sewing details, just suffice to say I got lots done on costuming last night. And today I look super cute. No, not wearing a costume, just looking cute. I'm going to make the effort to start dressing for work again now that I can fit into something other than my overalls.

I'm sleeping much better and yesterday I managed to wake up before the alarm. Today not so, but at least the beeping didn't yank me, groggy and disoriented, out of a sound sleep. Hopefully soon I'll be able to return to my normal sleeping habits. Yes, I enjoy being a morning person. Get over it.

Today's the first day of classes and there are a zillion people running around here trying to find Wescoe 3140 and 3139. Why'd they have to number this building so stupid?

I hope the weather gets this rain out of its system before I leave work or it holds off until after I get back from KC. Driving on the highway in a dark and stormy night is not my idea of a good time.

I'll bet your Wescoe isn't as ugly as my Wescoe! =)

My Wescoe building is attached to the maze of KU Med. It used to be a patient ward a very long time ago. The walls are covered in dark, dark paneling. The floors have a lovely unpadded institutional blue carpet [they finally replaced the 70's orange last year]. I have dark pink shades and orange file cabinents. On the plus side I have 2 windows, of course they face a building, but sunshine is nice. As is an unshared office with a door. So, ugly, ugly, ugly...yet it has a certain well worn charm. Course, I've been here in this office for gosh...11 years?

My Wescoe was supposed to be a parking garage. Pic here (http://www.ku.edu/~fmkuhtml/newbldgs/cntrfram/photos/wes_pho.jpg). I wish I had photos of the inside basement. The floor is so bad down there...it's so terribly warped some of the office doors don't shut. Eeek!

Lucky me, I'm on the third floor, and I have a window, too.

That's a myth that I learned was not true while I was working at UR. It was never supposed to be a parking garage. Yes, it is designed so it looks like a parking garage, but its intention was to always be a building.

I've seen the original plans, and they had the building being much taller, although I don't remember the original number of floors--I'm thinking 25.

Oh, it wasn't? Huh. Architect did a damn fine job of faking it, then. Twenty five floors of this hideousness? Thank god for inadequate soil foundation.

From what I understand, the plan was for a taller building, at least 10 stories, but there was supposed to be a parking garage on the bottom two floors. They had to stop building upwards because the bedrock was not stable enough to handle a taller building.

That's what I heard, too -- so half of what exists today was supposed to be a garage! That's bad enough.
