Wednesday Update
Twitter:
Love it when fanartists cater to my smoking kink.
In case you missed the memo, I'm on board with AU RPF now (the handbasket ride was lovely, thank you) and while I don't like the gendered concubine to queen thing in this one, the general sentiment is hilarious.
Will someone please explain to me what the numbers mean? My brain goes to things like Marvel 616 and other ways of noting alternate lives/universes, but I have no idea if I'm on the right track.
I would advise watching this with the sound off if you want The Sexy Experience (I'm such a sucker for shy kisses ugh)
From the Untamed corner:
TRUTH: "Lan Xichen’s appearance of ‘goodness’ is undermined by his centrist sensibilities and lack of ethical conviction." Fight me.
And regarding fandom in general, I recognize that people are terrible and colonizers are the worst and the points in
heipaoshi's post about this are something we all must consider when engaging with a culture that isn't ours. My first question is: How stupid are these people vilifying Asian fans writing incest fic? Like
mecurtin points out in the first comment, uh, Wincest? Thorki? It's not news that antis are willfully ignorant about, well, everything, really. But how deep in denial do you have to be to claim that "your people" (or whatever) would never write icky incest fic? Ugh. Antis. /o\
I successfully ate at a third restaurant this week! This was a double-jeopardy experiment where I ate rice noodles and miso soup so it was A Risk but no GI problems afterward and I felt fine the next day. This is very exciting, friends.

People talk about it when shipping Bai Yu and Zhu Yilong characters - there's a fandom joke now that Zhu Yilong has played a ton of historical/wuxia type characters, and Bai Yu has only played one (Pei Wende), so Pei Wende paired with a whole bunch of the ZYL48...and then Bai Qi arrived and since he's got the historical/wuxia vibe everyone's now shipping him with different long-haired ZYL characters, taking some of the pressure off Pei Wende. XD
(And the 12 in this context I think was that there are 12 Districts in the Hunger Games and there was a thread about which Zhu Yilong & Bai Yu characters would be from which District and what their backstories would be.)
Also yay, congrats on food treating you well! ♥
(I can't deal with the anti discussion I just flip my entire shit but thank you for linking it here.)

Yeah, I think both WWX and LWJ have brothers who are set up to be foils to them (and sources of pain). It's easier to see it in Jiang Cheng, not just with his jealousy, anger, and blame, but with his ambition and how that makes him so susceptible to valuing public opinion over his own moral compass. There's a complacency to Lan Xichen, though, that gets more and more obvious as the narrative goes on, a reluctance to disturb the status quo that's maybe easy to dismiss as something like impartiality, until you stop and look at the evidence he already has to hand. I think he allows himself to be maneuvered into a position where he can't act as a means not to act, and I have to wonder how much that played a factor in Nie Huaisang's choice to use him as the blade that kills Jin Guangyao (because I think NHS would have seen LXC's loyalty to JGY by that point as breaking faith with Nie Mingjue).
I just can't even with antis. Incest is built into the foundational myths of Western civilization. It's in Homer and Virgil, it's in the Christian tradition, it's in Shakespeare. "Our" people have always written it, and we will continue to write it, for a whole host of reasons, just like we write every other human experience. Anyone who says differently is an ignorant fuck.

I think it was definitely a factor in Nie Huaisang's choices/actions and IMO you can see him make that last decision in a split second over Lan Xinchen's shoulder. I don't think he could have planned that particular action in advance but man he sees the chance and he just Takes It, no hesitation and I fuckin' loved him SO MUCH in that moment (after loving him since the moment he first appeared on screen). <3 NHS <3

I started singing "He Had It Coming" at the television. I can be annoying to watch shows with
Oh, I think you and I would get along watching shows just fiiiine, because I do this kind of thing too. I just. Firmly believe media should be interactive.
IMO you can see him make that last decision in a split second over Lan Xinchen's shoulder.
Oh, absolutely. As soon as he hears that the plan is lifelong exile, you can see him thinking "no fucking way," and you know from that moment he is looking for the opportunity, and that it will be Lan Xichen if he can at all manage it. And really, I meant to say something yesterday about him (and about LWJ and Wen Qing), but got so swept up in my WWX feels (which, to be fair, are very overwhelming). NHS is the most Machiavellian, and I know that some people count him as at least a semi-villain because of that, but I certainly don't, and that's probably strongly informed by my opinion of Lan Xichen and NHS' intentions in bringing Wei Wuxian back. But also, I adore NHS. I think his ultimate aim has always been peace and justice, and I think he's loved and admired Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji since he was a teenager, as embodiments of the ideals he wants to see governing the world (and just as straight-up beauties he wouldn't kick out of bed for eating crackers).

*fistbump of solidarity on seemingly everything* Well, except for that first punishment bc I am fan of avoiding slippery slopes and instead of stepping in, he just hosed down the slide. He had the opportunity to exert some authority (the first example we see, anyway), and he failed even though he himself agreed it was wrong.
