A new year
Although the Celtic path is not really one I follow, I do find it appropriate that I spent the weekend of Samhain leaving my old home and settling into a new one. A million thanks to those who helped schlep my crap around. The stove was heavy. Yes, as was the couch, pattern cabinet, and sewing desk. I don't imagine the dresser was terribly light, nor was the vanity. I really do appreciate the help. Thank you.
Late night/early morning trains will take some getting used to.
Fetish Purrball took about ten minutes to acclimate to the new digs. She's not thrilled about the trains, either, and the furnace kind of creeps her out, but, as
mckitterick noted, she's the world's most self-absorbed cat. She doesn't notice anything except herself for very long.
Of course I started unpacking in the kitchen first, and it's very nearly done. The spice cabinet is full to overflowing. The tiny refrigerator worries me somewhat. I must adjust to a more European approach to grocery shopping. I need to give the oven a good cleaning (or two) before I have the gas line attached. I'm trying to decide if the oven cleaner fumes will be beneficial or hazardous to my already irritated sinuses.
The leopard couch looks like it was made to go in this living room. Once I get the now-empty boxes out of there (six--six!--boxes of kitchen supplies and that doesn't count the ones I put in long-term storage), I might be ready to entertain.
And again, may I state for the record, I can't imagine a better friend than
roya_spirit. Do you realize, hon, our friendship beats every other friendship I've ever had for longevity? Not just here in Lawrence, but for my lifetime? Amazing. How have you put up with me for so long? =) I'm so very glad you settled here, and I don't deny my selfish delight that you chose to stay.
Also, as of today at 5 p.m., my old phone number will work on the new cell phone. So anyone who was using the temporary number (I didn't bother giving it to many people since I was assured the transfer wouldn't take long), be sure to use the old number starting tonight if you want to call me. And if you haven't heard from me and I was supposed to call you, please feel free to give me a ring. Ten to one I've misplaced the damn thing. It's already happened twice at the new place.
