It occurred to me last night that most if not all the people in Guardian fandom knew me for barely two months before I lost my job and my life kinda went downhill fast from there. Believe it or not, I used to be a pretty together sort of person, and now I feel I am Not So Much That anymore. In fact, I feel like such a wretched mess the vast majority of the time these days, and I'm just barely holding it together. But here y'all still are! Being amazing and supportive and generous with your energy (and sometimes your money).

And I liked what naye said, that you are a together person in a scattered age. We're all just clinging to the edge of the lifeboat, metaphorically speaking, and while I've been fortunate in some ways I do relate to the feeling of being discombobulated. FWIW I've always viewed you as competent, compassionate, and creative!!!

Aw, bless you, friend! It's difficult to feel that way when all I can see is the smoking ruins of my own internal landscape. I suppose it's good to be reminded we're all our own worst critics.
