This one's for me and

It's shaping up to be a pretty day, although still wretchedly cold. Fourteen degrees F at 9:00 a.m. Brrr. Acorss the way, there's a man in coveralls walking on the roof of Malott Hall. I imagine it's absolutely miserable up there. I'm so glad to have a desk job. Say what you like about being chained to a eight-to-five, I don't mind it that much. I'd rather not have to be here at all, but under current circumstances, I don't see that changing anytime soon.
Before I forget, I just got the notice that we're scheduled to dance at Aladdin Café Thursday, February 24. I'll post again a couple days before the gig. I wish I had a new costume ready. I'm sick to death of looking at all my current ones.
I so badly want is a week off work where I can honest-to-god unpack my sewing room and get started making stuff again. I have a wedding to attend in a couple weeks and since it's semi-formal, I have absoultely nothing to wear. I'd love to make myself a killer little cheongsam out of some of the lovely brocades I've been seeing, but 1) no time 2) I don't know where half my notions are, including my shears, pins, and thread. It's very frustrating. I only need a day to whip up a cheongsam, but I need probably two eight-hour days to get the sewing area useable.
I need twice as much time and half as many things to do. So, what's new?
EDIT: I just found this community--
applyingtograd. I think I'm going to lurk for a while. It would be interesting to know what kind of questions applicants are asking each other. I know KU isn't MIT or Harvard, but I wonder if they'd be interested in hearing from someone on the other side of the application process.

Indeed!
This is the firstest thing I saw when I logged in... what greatness! Thanks for the much-needed giggles. I was in the midst of much asshattery and this broke the evil spell!

I don't have anything to wear to it either, and finding something has been difficult. I don't have time to look again either until next weekend.

When I moved down here last March I went straight into full production mode without having the time to unpack ANYTHING! When I'd packed up the old one, I put my customary tools into a couple of workbaskets and a biiig box and labelled then thusly but no clue as to where things like trims, notions, interfacings, linings, patterns, frikkin' pegboard hooks....
Consequently my lovely sewing room is still piled to the ceiling with boxes containing all that shi,er..stuff and I'm prolly gonna hafta go buy more pegboard hooks before I find the shit-ton of them that I already have!
It's gonna be like an archeological dig in reverse but I keep swearing I'm gonna tackle one box a week. Not to mention that I've got to do so in order to take my cartons of fabric out of the guest room and put them in there, too!

Probably the best way to help me is just sit on the other side of the room and keep me company. =) Again, like ya'll do when I'm cooking. Sometimes.
