Friday

My wrist is doing much better. I've been very conscientious about staying off the keyboard as much as possible this week. Giving it time to heal. I think it helped.

As an April Fool's joke at the office, the assistant to the chair put a funny in the weekly department bulletin: Check the last page. Unfortunately, he opted not to use the accompanying photo. I think he feared throwing certain faculty members into cardiac arrest.

1. What's the one movie you've seen more times than any other? Probably either Silverado or Big Trouble In Little China.
2. If you could turn one book, comic book or other print story into a feature-length movie, what story would you pick and why? I'd love to see Little, Big by John Crowley made into a mini-series, but I wouldn't trust anyone to do it justice.
3. Whom would you cast? Me!!! As Nora Cloud.
4. What one movie would you like to see "updated for the year 2005"? (Ie, a remake) Not a big fan of remakes, myself.
5. What one movie are you most looking forward to this year? Sin City, this weekend, baby!!!! Then probably Hitchhiker's Guide.

1. Tell us a clean, family-friendly joke: Q: What do you get when you plant kisses? A: Two Lips. awwwwww....
2. Do you take part in April Fool's Day antics? Not really. I'm not into practical jokes.
3. Tell us about the last prank you pulled: Honestly? I don't remember.
4. When is the last time you were fooled? Er, don't know...
5. Tell us the dirtiest, most crude joke you know: Veatch? Veatch? You around here today?

*snickers* at the announcement. So, What personal items do you have left to barter away?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You may not have my red stapler. =)

I imagine if I really was leaving, the leopard Hello Kitty keychain would go for a fair price.

That's fantastic. Glad somebody's department has a sense of humor. heehee.

Love, Love, Love *BigTroubleinLittleChina* must rent-get on DVD someday.

When I read the AF blurb, my brain fixated on destitute rhyming with prostitute... I'm not sure why.
Perhaps my brain was headed for Limerick Land, but I stopped it in time?

Oh, yes. I love my department here. And the assistant to the chair is a hoot. I love sharing an office with him.

I picked up my copy for $9.99 at Target, I think. Unfortunately, it's not the special edition one. That goes for big $$$ on eBay since it's OOP.

hee. that's a good one.

yah, the pic probably would have thrown someone into some sort of tizzy, besides threatening the lives of weaker men.

still snickering...

I'd absolutely love to see Little, Big in film. After seeing Big Fish, I'm pretty sure that Tim Burton would knock it out of the park.

Yeah, ok, I'd be willing to at least talk to him about it. So, you've read it. Wouldn't I kick ass as Nora? Slap some old age makeup on me, hand me a carton of long brown cigs, and let me go.

Gotta be a mini-series, though. No way could you do that book in two hours.

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd kick a bunch of ass as Nora, actually. That's... sort of eerie.

I'm a vast, vast fan of that book, actually. Nothing he's written comes close, although Engine Summer has its own majesty to it. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

And, yeah. There's too much there to make it a two-hour piece. Smokey's journey to Edgewood in and of itself is two hours of movie.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That book changed my life. It's magic.

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
And, strangely enough, it's one of the books I've pointed out as a fine sort of Nobilis campaign.

Seed: planted!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooo. Oooooo. That certainly gets me pondering...

[identity profile] radcliffe.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh that is utterly fantastic ;-)

Hee hee hee hee.

Great announcment from work!

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2005-04-01 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Depending on how you look at it, the travails of the Barnable-Drinkwater clan can be seen as an effort to maintain a shifting world (with the end of the book, effectively, becoming the beginning of a Nobilis campaign) or the lives of a bunch of Anchors (people who're directly connected to Nobles and, thus, have extraordinary things happen around them as the world shifts).

And, of course, it's one of the best books ever written. So it's got value that way, too.

Get me a group and we'll roll with it.
