20 things about me
I've seen this meme going around and while I know it's a bit time-consuming I simply cannot bear any more data entry this morning. So.
1. While I'm slow to learn things physically, I have excellent muscle memory. Once it's there, it's there forever, sometimes to my detriment. Woe to me if a choreography I learn changes slightly. There are two or three dances I've learned over the past 15 years that I can do at a moment's notice. New ones, though? Very, very difficult for me to learn. Similarly, I type by pattern, so I nearly always close my HTML tags with /a, no matter what the opening tag is, because the a href is the tag I use most. My fingers just type that pattern before I think about it.
2. I have a (bad) tendency to make snap judgements. I recognize this, and while it's not something I've been able to change (yet), I know it's a problem. So I try to keep an open mind to opposing arguments. And I've never had a problem admitting my first impression was wrong.
3. While my opinions might often be misinformed or unsound, if I say "I'm right" about a fact or event (as long as it didn't happen to me--see #4), then I'm right. End of story. This isn't bragging, it's just true. I have an alarming ability to pull, with complete accuracy, bizarre facts and various bits of knowledge out of thin air. I don't know how or why. But trust me. I don't often aggressively assert my correctness. When I do, just accept it that it's true and life will be much easier and less embarassing for all involved.
4. However, my brain does weird things to events that actually happen to me. I get this from my mother. I will be willing to swear that something happened like XYZ, when it reality it more like WXY. I can remember conversations, actions, events, all in vivid detail that simply did not happen, or I will have an actual interaction completely disappear from my memory. However, having dealt with this problem with my mother, I know my reality isn't always accurate and I will always back down when shown that XYZ did not, in fact, happen as I remember.
5. While I don't think I have a diagnosable eating disorder, I will admit that I don't have a very healthy relationship with food. And I have a very distorted body image of myself.
6. I couldn't care less about having a career. I'm happy to have a job that requires no more than 40 hours of my week. I know I would never want to turn one of my hobbies into a job. I would burn out fast and then I wouldn't get to enjoy that hobby anymore.
7. I have never received an accurate tarot card reading. Not that I've had many, but the few I've gotten have been from very reliable, accurate readers. Invariably, they get one or two current facts right, but as far as the predictive stuff, or advice = Nada. Even the highly esteemed Cassmera got two facts right for me last year (about stuff happening at the moment), but none of the other stuff turned out even remotely similar. I've always wondered if I'm a psychic damper.
8. I despise being wet. If I get in a hot tub, it's a rare thing. If I spend more than 15 minutes in it, it's a miracle. I like being clean, but I don't like bathing.
9. I've learned and (mostly) lost the ability to speak Spanish three times.
10. When I focus, I can be Grace Incarnate. But most of the time I'm a freaking water buffalo with about as much dexterity as your average, well, water buffalo.
11. I learned to sew because I'm toocheap frugal to spend hundreds of dollars on bellydance costumes. When I figured out I could also make the type of clothes that I liked and actually fit me, I was hooked. This has bled over into other areas of my life, and now I can't bring myself to buy what I know I can make. This extends to beaded jewelry, most clothing, and types of food served at restaurants.
12. I am never bored. I believe that boredom is the ultimate insult to oneself. As a result, I keep myself a little too busy, sometimes.
13. To me, time is more important than money. IMO, the most appealing thing about being a vampire is the idea of having thousands of years to do stuff. Lots of stuff. Lots and lots of stuff. I could finally have the time to learn to thow on a pottery wheel. Or devote years to become fluent in other languages. I'd have time to read all the books people recommend to me. Oh, the list goes on...
14. If it wasn't bad for me, I would drink coffee all day long. I love it. That part about being a vampire would suck.
15. I own over 50 linear feet of shoes, and that's after having rid myself of several pairs (and not replacing them) over the past few years.
16. I knew I was kinky long before I knew I was bisexual. I knew that pain and the concept of being tied up made me feel all tingly as early as ten years old. I always thought women's bodies were prettier than men's, but I didn't realize that I was sexually attracted to women until I was in college.
17. Competition is something I don't really comprehend. I understand that winning is important to other people, but it doesn't matter to me. I mostly just love to play games and will often prolong a game just to continue playing, even at the cost of my win. (Note: this does not apply to playing Balls with the whores, but only because I get so damn tired of standing in the sun!)
18. I love jewelry, but I don't often remember to wear it.
19. I enjoy singing, but I'm embarassed by what has become of my voice due to abuse and dis-use.
20. I spend too much time on LJ.
