Wow. A real weekend. What a concept!

I am so so so glad it's Friday. And I have such big weekend plans: Sleep in. Get up to pee and eat. Nap. Ahhh.

In the meantime, please see this excellent essay on [livejournal.com profile] kalinobeche's LJ regarding the sad, insensitive, and ultimate ignorance of George W. Bush. And [livejournal.com profile] chronovore posted a fantastic piece on Science vs. Creationism.

Regarding the most recent memes, I'm trying to answer most memory ones, but I think the "wake up in bed one" is silly, so sorry you won't be getting an answer from me on that. Except [livejournal.com profile] mesniu, whose meme I answered before I really thought about it. =) I have this weird antipathy towards asking for comments here, so I won't be posting either on my LJ. But if you are simply burning to post a memory of me, fine, I won't stop you. I won't feel bad if nobody does. It's just not my thing.

Last night I went to Hancock's to pick up a couple patterns (one's for an xmas present, really!) and got shanghai'd by some amazing fabric. I swear, I was walking towards the checkout counter with my two little patterns and this fabric leapt off the display stand and demanded I purchase it. All of it. All ten yards. Red, orange, and blue striped metallic cotton that will make a stunning tribaret piece. It's gorgeous. Trust me. I already have plans for my next costume--a leopard print cabaret number--but this will be the one after that. Yum.

And now,

1. What do you like or dislike about autumn? Dislike: It means winter is on the way. I'm trying to be friendlier to autumn, but it's a challenge.
2. Have you raked leaves into a pile just to jump in them? No, but I used to jump in the piles my dad raked when we lived in Indiana. We lived on a lot with 15 trees.
3. Have you ever carved a pumpkin and how did it turn out? I love carving pumpkins even though I'm not so good at it.
4. Have you ever eaten anything made from pumpkins other than pie? The pumpkin soup at Mother Pockets's was amazing. I'd love the recipe for that...
5. Where is a good spot to see the leaves change color where you live? Old West Lawrence is great when we have a colorful year, as is the park over by Potter Pond. Dunno that we're going to have a pretty season this year, though. Looks like everything's going to go from green to brown.

1. Have you made any Halloween plans? I have an invitation to a costume party on the 28th. Chris Scruggs is playing at Knuckleheads on the 29th. I'm not sure I have the energy or motivation for either, though...
2. At what age should you stop trick-or-treating? I'd say about 11 or 12. Once you're a teenager, you're too old.
3. What's your favorite kind of Halloween candy? Reese's Miniature Peanut Butter Cups.
4. Are you more likely to trick someone else or be tricked yourself? Neither.
5. Do you believe in ghosts? Yep.

Those sound remarkably like my weekend plans as well. Resting before I gear up for the next few weeks.

Ah, yes. Suicidal fabric. What can we do in such situatutions but buy the stuff? :p And it sounds just gorgeous.

OMG it's gorgeous. And the design is woven, not printed, so I won't have to line the drop sleeves or anything. Ah ah ah.

I'm looking forward to making more memories with you :)

the antipathy is toward the asking for & not receiving, I'll play. ;-)

On my recent trip to KCRF, in fulfillment of a promise of diet coke (how she managed on NO notice whatsoever I will never know, but that's A), [livejournal.com profile] angel_in_purple led me into a wench-filled backstage area & handed me a much needed cold one. A familiar & much loved fragrance wafted to me. "WHO is smoking kreteks??"

See, I don't smoke, but when I was in high school I picked up the habit of smoking the occasional clove cigarette from my best friend. I mostly lost the habit in college, but a few years after my marriage I became friends w/ a set of Faire-folk, pretty much all of whom smoked. One day, somebody handed me a kretek, & after that, on the once/twice annual occasions on which I was able to spend time w/ these friends, I'd find myself bumming a kretec or two. One year I bought my own pack, smoked about 3 or 4, & saved the rest for the next year. I think a pack once got me through 3 years. ;-)

In any case, pretty much the only place I smoked was w/ my Faire friends. Conversely, when I'm @ Faire, I crave kretecs. This year, it didn't even occur to me to buy a pack or see if I had any left in my cigarette case because I was coming down w/ a non-smoking friend. But when I smelled that sweet clove smoke & looked around to see your obvious enjoyment of it, the craving almost made me dizzy. & then you were kind enough to share!! Thank you, that may have been my fave kretek ever. ;-)

Awwww! I'm always happy to share. It's a very social thing for me.

Go, me! Thanks for the plug.

The Bed Meme was pretty silly; I was mainly posting for LJ friends I've met IRL. That said, [livejournal.com profile] sdemory's response cracked me up, sumfin fierce.
