Hump Day
Nearly halfway through the work week, folks. Only two more wake-ups before Saturday.
One star reviews of Time's top 100 novels. Thanks to
curieuse for the link.
There are a couple I do have to agree with, though.
The Great Gatsby (1925) Author, F. Scott Fitzgerald
“It grieves me deeply that we Americans should take as our classic a book that is no more than a lengthy description of the doings of fops.”
Honestly? I despise this book. Can't stand it. Hated it when I had to read it in high school, hated it when I had to read it in college. I will agree that it's good writing, but content? Bleaugh. If I actually met any of the characters in this book (with the exception of George, who is just too pathetic), I'd want to choke them. All of them.
The Lord of the Rings (1954) Author: J.R.R. Tolkien
“The book is not readable because of the overuse of adverbs.”
I love these books, but the reviewer does have a point. Also too much poetry. I admit when I get to one of those chapters that has endless paragraphs of italics, I, er, skim. If that.
gamera_spinning,
gmskarka,
rorschachsix,
sdemory and any other fanboys on my flist: Have you seen the
scans_daily community?
I just found out a friend of mine is going to be DJing at Replay tomorrow night (Thursday) and afterwards his wife and I are going to hit the Granada for 80s night. Anyone care to join? She has to drive back to KC and everyone knows I'm not a late-night person, so you should still be able to boogie down with us for a bit and still get barely enough sleep for work on Friday. I'll make a separate post with meet-up info for interested parties.
