Food 4 Less is closing

I went by Food 4 Less last night to get my 7-day candle for solstice. They're closing. Everything 25% off.

This sucks big time since Food 4 Less is possibly the best grocery store in town for ethnic foods, specialty flours, etc. So go stock up, folks.

UPDATE: I am a curse. A blight. Really. According to [livejournal.com profile] solan_t, Sushi Station is closing at the end of December as well. I hereby declare I will no longer become attached to places of business that I actually like.

Looks around

Any other restaurants or stores care to close while we're at it? Anyone? Anyone?

I hope you'll forgive me for indulging in a little nostalgia ...

When I lived in a studio apartment in Downtown K.C., my mother extended an open invite for me to go to her home to do my laundry. (Ostensibly to save the quarters; though, what with expended gas, i can't imagine the savings to be that considerable. Oh well ...) On the way to and from, off of Barry Road, there was a Food 4 Less, open 24 hours. I would go to Mom's on Friday night, do my laundry, watch The X-Files, get online, and stop at Food 4 Less on the way home for grocery shopping. It ended up being a Friday custom that I would show up at 1 or 2 in the morning; there was a checker who got to know me, practically by name.

Eventually, the Food 4 Less closed. I mourned, inwardly; the location was convenient, the prices were good, and I found myself wondering where the checker would go.

R.I.P., Lawrence Food 4 Less. (Does that sound like a movie title or what? Must remember that one ... ) You've no idea how many memories you've spawned ...

We were just lamenting this last night. Apparently, they don't think they'll be able to compete with the Super Wal Mart. I maintain that the people who shop at Food For Less would NEVER shop at Wal Mart, but now they'll have to, I guess...

No kidding. Like Wal Mart is going to stock things like Chiles in Adobo sauce or Estrella pasta. And Checkers has a pathetic selection of novena candles. *sigh*

It really is a pity. I'm thinking about going back again tonight, just in case there's anything left that I might have missed or want more of. I mean, canned mole sauce will last ages in the pantry, right?

[identity profile] malvito.livejournal.com 2005-12-14 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Wise idea, especially given the dropped prices. Though I must confess to not knowing what is mole sauce (unless the 'e' on the 'mole' is supposed to be accented; even then I'm not sure, but at least the pronunciation is right), and, thus, how long it should last in a pantry.

Certainly worth a go, though.

LOL! It's Moe-Lay. Didn't grow up in an hispanic household, did ya? =D

Chicken Mole (http://www.supereggplant.com/archives/chicken%20mole.JPG). Done right, it's one of the foods of the gods.

I heard that yesterday, and thought about heading there this afternoon for good food prices.

My sister was always fond of the candy section. She always wanted to go there when I was living at Park 25 right behind it (she was 14 at the time and has since lost her excitement for candy). We would go, steal a cart, and then I would race her around the parking lot in the apartment complex.

Nope, but Target has Chipotles in Adobo sauce.

Arrrgh! This sucks! Stop taking away things that I get to brag about to people when I talk about Lawrence! *shakes fist in futile anger*

Oh, could closed that annoying furniture store on Iowa? You know that red one with flashing lights? I don't remember the name.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2005-12-14 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and DO NOT EAT AT THE WA.

If that place closes, I will be devastated.

Thanks.

*ROFL* Actually, my father was originally from Peru, but, no, I never heard it mentioned. Apparently this was something that they didn't eat in mass quantities in Sullana.

I'm sorry! I'm sorry!!!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-12-14 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe it's more Mexican than South American, so that might explain it. Peru! Really? Cool!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-12-14 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not that good of an actress. No way I could convince the universe that I like to shop there.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2005-12-14 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not eaten there yet and will refrain from doing so for your benefit.

Oooops!

[identity profile] the-themiscyran.livejournal.com 2005-12-14 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I meant the cruel and unusual universe in general, not you as her particular agent. In general, I do not like to blame the Horse. :)

I know. I just seem to be the Angel of Death so very very often. =(
