Executive decision
I'm taking tomorrow off work. Not sure what I'll do, but I won't be doing it here. Of course, all plans could change. The secretary across the hall just left feeling ill. If I come down with this flu bug I'll be spending my day off in the bathroom.
But anyway, yes, tomorrow: Not At Work.
Had an eye exam yesterday and ordered my new glasses. The old ones were three years old and the prescription was a little too strong (my eyes are getting "better" which really just means more farsighted than nearsighted). Cow (as
stuology says), glasses are expensive. I'd forgotten. The irritating part is KU's insurance pays a percentage of your eyewear but a flat $150 for contact lenses--your choice--once a year. Since I had my own frames, the percentage would only have been about $87. I have to get new contacts this year, too, so I paid the $160 for my glasses (thank gods I only spent $12 on the frames!) and I'll use the $150 to pay for my contact lenses in March. Grrr. Not where I wanted to spend my money. (Hint: anyone planning to come to Aladdin tonight, feel free to bring a couple bills for tipping--I could use it *g*) The new frames are really cute, though. Another cat-eye pair from a thrift store. These are a dark greeny-gray with a very few tiny pink rhinestones and little silver dots. A couple of the dots are missing but I can fix that with some paint. I'm hoping darker frames on my face will make the fact that my Hair Looks Like Crap less noticeable.
Actually, the hair doesn't look too bad yet. But give it time. I imagine come March friends will be carrying berets and stocking caps in their cars with them in case I show up to an event without my own headcover.
I actually painted my nails for tonight's Aladdin gig. You know that's special, folks. And I'm going to try a little costuming something I saw on
roya_spirit's Bellydance Superstars video last night. It'll be a surprise. Hopefully. Teh sexxay, IMO. I also might head out to Walgreen's after work to find some shiny glassy lipgunk. I want Inara lips when I'm dancing. I wonder how I can keep the gunk from migrating to the rest of my face, though. Lotsa powder, I guess. So yeah, those of you who make it to Aladdin tonight might get treated with some new costuming and makeup stuff. Oh, and the fingernails: purple.
EDIT: I wish she was my Senator.

:) This is were I have scrounged around and found all my glasses of this exact type, too.
I was just looking online out of curiosity about glasses the other day because the dog has chewed the earpiece of mine and I almost had a heart attack when I saw what frames cost -- some of them, in the granny sort of cat-eye I like (but made of modern lightweight plastic and not the rather clunky, heavy type I find in thrift stores and like), were $150+ for the frames alone. Sheesh.

Of course, it's getting harder and harder to find anything at a thrift store these days--in my case it's getting hard to find a damn thrift store at all since all but two of the local stores have closed. *sigh*

And, I got myself all prettified, but no nail polish. Lot's o'boob tm, though.

it was a good question, too. :(

Yeah, this is the truth. I saw a bunch of glasses in the 'hip' shops on 4th street (which is Tucson's "cool section", if you know what I mean) and it was obvious they had people making the thrift store runs (of which tucson has an absurdly GIANT amount) and scooping up the cool stuff and marking it way the hell up.
When I lived in LA and would spend a lot of time here because my (now) husband was here, we would always talk about what a killing you could make buying stuff here (where the cost of living is ridiculously low, particularly compared to LA) and taking it back to LA to sell. An example: I bought an ankle length, *heavy* (you know that thick, biker coat leather?), mint condition leather coat for *twenty dollars* at the Big Brothers/Big Sisters thrift store here. That was 10 years ago and I have no doubt someone is doing that very thing.
But, as far as glasses, I haven't found any in thrift stores in FOREVER, which is why I was looking online. The secret has apparantly leaked out. :)

I finally gave up on the bra last night and scrounged up an older model that I can just blinking-well attach everything to without covering it. (black, of course). Yes, oh-me-of-the-rollercoaster-boob-size am able to wear one of the ones I'd put way in the back of the drawer last year. Now for the making of new vestments to go over it, and I'm set.
And I found those frames I showed you online. Bleh, they're still 90-some bucks, but oh-so-pretty.

Sorry the bra was frustrating. That is why I don't have many cabaret costumes.... =)

And I dont' think the Union pays for anything but the exam. :(
heh, I hear ya on that bra thing. It's also why I wear vests, so's I don't have to f* with the strap nonsense.
This one's going to be that heavy metal-button ocoin thing, so I decided that it looks better attached at the upper strap instead of across the bra top. It gives the look of the same shape as the bra I was working with last night, without having to change and cover it.

Do you know how it is that they can allow people to smoke inside? Is the hooka a loophole in the law?

Try powdering your lips and using lipliner before you apply the gloss and Mabeline makes on that is nice and shiny and not gooey at all.
Love!
FYI
Not cheap, but probably lasts a long time. I haven't used it myself, though. Hope you're having a good "well" day!
