So. What's new?
Wow, five days of nearly CR-free LJ. How did you all survive?
The four days off were simply amazing. Heavenly. Bliss! I got so much done! My apartment is tidy and clean (well except for the floors--I really need to borrow someone's vacuum cleaner sometime, and soon). I actually cooked meals. And people, I started on A Project. I'm making: A Quilt!
Yes! I took fabrics left over from the bed curtains and other miscellaneous fabric (not to worry,
sagendal, there's still a huge box of scraps etc. headed your way) and made the top of a queen-size comforter quilt. It's really, really pretty. I'm sure a veteran quilter would've torn her hair out watching me, but I had great fun fitting the different pieces. I made a huge blank space on my living room floor and laid down the biggest piece of fabric (red! of course!) and then I'd sew different lengths of fabric to it, making the shape larger, until it reached 90x95 inches. I found a nice mottled mustard-colored piece of extra-wide quilt backing on clearance at Hancocks so all I have left to do (all! ha!) is quilt the thing and edge it. Oh, and I sprung for the extra fancy all cotton quilt batting since it was 30% off. I have high hopes for this project. Should be gorgeous. Next, finish that canopy and the twelve million canopy tassels and my bed will be done, done, done and I'll charge admission for people to come gaze upon its beautifulness.
I got nearly everything shipped off to people who are expecting things from me via post. You know who you are. With the exception of
professormass and
sagendal, because I keep looking at it thinking there's got to be more I could send off...so maybe I'll get that mailed tonight since I gotta be out for Knit & Crochet meeting, which I am finally going to hooray!
Now the bad news, briefly: The optician called about my glasses and they can't use my new frames. There's a crack in the bottom on one side, so tiny that the eyedoctor place didn't see it before they sent them off. But of course it's there, so the lensmakers won't put the lenses in. Wah! So now I'm on the hunt for some frames. I bid on this pair on eBay this morning and there's a couple more options waiting in the wings if I lose that bid.
All the new sewing projects have made me start pining for more fabrics, alas. What is wrong with me? God, it's a disease! I did let myself splurge a wee bit on some upholstery fabric (I got 40% off the clearance price!) but I shouldn't buy any more ... seriously. Really shouldn't. I need to get to where I can fit all my fabrics in the open shelving in the sewing room. No overflow into the closet! Well, with the exception of the bolts of novelty cottons. And rolls of upholstery fabric. And trims. Shit.

Heh. Heheheheheheh.
It is a disease. And, worse, it's contagious. I know this, because I seem to have caught it from you. Don't look in my closet, k?

And do I want to be rid of any of it? Hell, no.

My mom's an afficianada(?) of such things, and swears by them for the authentic lasts-forever feeling. And the warm. :)
Sounds like you had a great project!! Can't wait to see pics.

(Although the steam cleaner needs a good cleaning itself before next use)

Vacuum?
Please take it.

Heh. Working on it, babe. :^)
We will, of course, need a Murray-style guest house for all our LJ friends to come visit Stately Mass Manor.
