Oh happy day!

GMail finally added a delete button to their options. You no longer have to choose delete from the pull-down menu. Holy Cow! *falls over in a dead faint--thud*

Now you all know I love you so much, right? And I would never dream of cheating on any of you, especially you, [livejournal.com profile] slackmistress because, you know you are The Great Unrequited Internet Love Crush Of All Time for me. But I have *blush* a new e-crush. Her name is Crazy Aunt Purl and I could read her all day. Maybe I did a couple weeks ago when it was really slow around here. She's fantastic. Check her out if you have time. You don't have to be a knitter, don't worry.

It's been a while:

1. What is your preferred trusted news source? NPR. I wouldn't say "trusted" but at least the most reliable that's easily accessible to me.
2. What is a news source that you will never trust? Oh, I don't know, FOX?
3. What is the news topic during the last calendar year that you feel got the worst coverage? Anything involving Paris Hilton.
4. What news item do you feel got too much coverage in the last calendar year? That'd have to be Paris Hilton, again.
5. If you had complete control of your favored news source(s) (answer to question 1), what would you do with it that is not already being done? I'd like more world news in addition to the BBC hour.

1. What do you normally eat for breakfast? During the week, tea and something at my desk.
2. Are you more likely to drink coffee or tea? Weekdays, tea. Weekends, coffee.
3. Would you consider yourself a good cook? Yes, thank you.
4. What is your favorite meal? *sigh*
5. Green eggs and ham: would you eat it? As long as the color wasn't indicative of something actually wrong with the food, sure, why not?

1. Which languages do you know? How did you learn them (e.g. natively, from classes, by immersion)? Now, just English. But my Spanish wasn't bad and I could get by with American Sign and Signed English once upon a time.
2. Which language would you most like to learn? Why? I really want to learn Spanish again and keep it. I've learned and forgotten three times now. It's a beautiful sounding language and fairly easy to learn. Fortunately, it gets easier every time. =D
3. Have you visited any places where you did not know the predominent language? If so, which ones? Was it hard to manage? Yes, Italy. It wasn't an issue since I was staying with Italians who did all the talking for me.
4. Which language do you most enjoy hearing, seeing, or expressing? Why? Well, English I suppose, because that's the only one I understand right now.
5. Which languages, other than the one(s) you know, are you exposed to your daily life? The language of academia. I am not a fan.

It's taken me more than an hour to get this entry finished because I've been eating the best breakfast burrito I've ever eaten In My Life. Since I live about spitting distance from Burrito King, it's a temptation to stop there every single morning for some burrito goodness. Obviously I don't because if I did, I wouldn't be writing this because I wouldn't fit through my office door. But I stopped this morning and people, it--well, at least the half I finished--was so good. Now it could be that anything would've tasted good after the grand total of 700 calories I ate yesterday (oops). But seriously. Yum. Breakfast Burrito #4. Try it, folks. An even $3 with tax. You won't be sorry.

One of our profs just sent this out to the English listserv:
Below is a quotation from our President which can be used by Language and Composition instructors to illustrate...something.
Subject: Bush Explains [U.S.] Medicare Drug Bill
WOMAN IN AUDIENCE: "I don't really understand. How is it the new plan going to fix the problem?"
Verbatim response: PRESIDENT BUSH: "Because the -- all which is on the table begins to address the big cost drivers. For example, how benefits are calculated, for example, is on the table. Whether or not benefits rise based upon wage increases or price increases. There's a series of parts of the formula that are being considered. And when you couple that, those different cost drivers, affecting those -- changing those with personal accounts, the idea is to get what has been promised more likely to be -- or closer delivered to that has been promised. Does that make any sense to you? It's kind of muddled. Look, there's a series of things that cause the -- like, for example, benefits are calculated based upon the increase of wages, as opposed to the increase of prices. Some have suggested that we calculate -- the benefits will rise based upon inflation, supposed to wage increases. There is a reform that would help solve the red if that were put into effect. In other words, how fast benefits grow, how fast the promised benefits grow, if those -- if that growth is affected, it will help on the red."

Forward this to others -- so they, too, may understand.

And now, to finish processing these graduate applications.

English is clearly not that man's first language. I can't even watch a press conference or speech of his for more than a minute or so without wanting to charge through the television and throttle him. And that's just for what he's doing to my beloved language, not for what the words might mean, if you could decipher them.

I was in my inbox this morning, and trying to delete a message... and it wasn't in the drop box. I flipped. I was like, "what'd I do?!?!? Where did it go? I didn't change anything!!! OMG!"

Then I saw the button.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-01-20 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. I did the Exact Same Thing. =D

Lydia, will you make the costume in your icon, please.

And wear it.

And put your fists on your hips.

Pretty please?

That'd make a killer Halloween costume, wouldn't it? That's really tempting. 'Cept nobody around here understands Mexican Wresting stuff. They'd think I was a superhero. *sigh*

...but I'll think about it. =)

And even after I've known it was there, I keep hitting the drop box and half the time add a damned star to the thing.

I think I've now hit 'delete' correctly about twice. *facepalm*

In regards to the Bush 'speech'.

Now I understand! I got about a line in and my brain just shut down. That's how he does it! He shuts down people's brains with complete nonsense syllables, then hypnotizes them with his cadence. After that, they are mindless zombies to his cause. It all makes SENSE now!

I'm all about Crazy Aunt Purl. She's divorced, so you know she puts out. She's Southern, so she'll have one of those sexy accents. And also, she digs on the pussy, and that's never wrong.

Plus, she has the cutest little rosy red cheeks!

How come professormass gets to see the boobies and I don't??? I'm hurt! Sad, mistreated, left out, sniff sniff! I want the boobies too. :)
