(Not)Dancing and misplaced guilt

A few weeks ago, Zada scheduled dancers for this evening at Aladdin Café. I don't think I responded to the initial email because I wasn't sure if I could make it, what with Faire being the ultimate time suck and all. Yesterday I wrote her to confirm that I wouldn't be able to dance. I was just too busy. She emailed back that she was down to only about four dancers and isn't sure that's enough to carry the performance.

This irritates me on so many levels.

1) It's no surprise that she's losing dancers due to her unprofessional behavior and generally disagreeable temper.
2) The restaurant patrons deserve to have quality dancers, but the restaurant isn't willing to pay (although I want to confirm that conversation with Mohammed).
3) She assumed I'd be dancing, even though I have resigned from the troupe.
4) I love dancing at the restaurant and would be happy to perform with the other girls if I had the time.
5) I'm letting myself feel guilty for something that is not my problem.

sigh

Dammit.

How bizarre of her to expect you to be there when you have resigned from the troupe AND didn't respond to the e-mail query. What, is she functioning on the rule of threes?

It constantly irritates da crap outa me...

1) when people assume that folk will cover their ass due to unprofessional behavior and then don't get why they're needing their ass covered regularly.

2) when venues expect performers who work hard at their chosen field to perform for free; would they give free food just because they're good at cooking?

3) when people use manipulation and guilt to accomplish their goals.

DON'T buy into it, sweetie. You're right, it's not your problem!

Baby, this shit is not yours...do what you can to let it go. You are on a 4 day week between 2 festival weekends. She should fucking know better than to expect you.

Period.

Her problem. Perhaps if she were to pull her head out of her ass, she would no longer have said problem...

D.

No longer your problem. I absolve you of all guilty feelings, feel free to tell them to go and play a game of hide and go fuck themselves. No compensation=no incentive to even care about their ongoing issues.

Has anyone considered starting up another dance troup, run by people that can organize?

this is SO not me...

You are introverted, reserved, and quiet with a preference for solitude and solitary activities. Your socializing tends to be restricted to a few close friends. You can be very easily upset, even by what most people consider the normal demands of living. People consider you to be extremely sensitive and emotional. Novelty, variety, and change spice up your life and make you a curious, imaginative, and creative person. People see you as tough, critical, and uncompromising and you have less concern with others' needs than with your own. You like to live for the moment and do what feels good now. Your work tends to be careless and disorganized.

And, ahem, she only had three dancers show up, including herself. I overheard her giving explanations (excuses?) to people why various dancers hadn't been able to make it, including you. It appears to be a systemic problem.....

Wow, just three? Sounds like JA has cooked her goose. I had been planning on going tonight with [livejournal.com profile] amjhawk, but as he'd never seen one of the Aladdin bellydance shows, I figured this wasn't a good first time. Glad we didn't go now, but I miss seeing bellydance on a regular basis. Perhaps if Mohammed paid to bring in pros, thereby guaranteeing a show, he could also guarantee an audience. Poo.

Mention that to him next time you eat there. Little birds tweeting in his ear certainly couldn't hurt.

Yeah, I had thought of taking belly dancing lessons, but after seeing how snippy she is, I'd rather get a video.

[identity profile] bestill.livejournal.com 2006-09-12 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I forgot to add in that comment that I'd be happy if there were other places to learn belly dancing in town! Especially if it's from you!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2006-09-14 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I can recommend another teacher here in town. Let me know if you're interested.

It has been mentioned that he's avoiding disconnecting with her because he has no other options.
*a-HEM* indeed.

Not to mention... wtf happened to the whole convo regarding a regular for-hire night? I suppose we didn't support her the way she wanted on that matter either, so she dropped it.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2006-10-03 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Shall we just say, it used to be Standing Room Only when we had a contract and pay and advertising, back in the day.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2006-10-03 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Shall we say...
There's good reason why several of us have distanced ourselves.

and btw, congrats on the very successful SOLD_OUT book signing!

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2006-10-03 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, let's start a petition drive to get Mohammed's attention!
