Toot sweet

Airplants. I want them. Especially that Caput-Medusa. Wow.

Interesting (and nice) to know: apparently I am the person to ask when you want something done--and if possible, done immediately. There was an issue yesterday where our new secretary had a question of how to do something bureaucratic. One of the grad students directed her to me, with the basic sentiment "If Lydia can't figure out how to get something done, it can't be done." I might not have mastered the system, but I think I have a firm handle on it. In the past week, I've solved a few problems just by making direct requests to the appropriate people. It's helpful to have friends in the right places, but I think I have those friends because they know I don't take bullshit and I don't give it. Anyway, that's my horn. Toot, toot.

In other news: I desperately want to go home and clean house. Just itching! Argh! Why can't I feel like this when I'm actually at home???

I used to be that way when I worked the front desk of McCollum Hall. I either knew who to drop a note to, or I could usually solve any problem or put it up the food chain within 3 calls.

Airplants are super-keen. [livejournal.com profile] radcliffe gave me one once, on the premise that they are impossible to kill...*ummm, Ooops!*...they still rock, though.

And so with you on the cleaning! I'm giving it a go tomorrow, among other things.

"If Lydia can't figure out how to get something done, it can't be done."

I am one among literal hundreds who've uttered this, I am sure.

You don't know how good it makes me feel to know that I really am helping people. It's good to know I'm good at my job.

You and me both, sistah!

I would add in very small anonymous type that there was always a distinct and notable contrast in confidence I had with other people who shall remain nameless who have a similar job. The end who said that not me. ;) I may end up begging to take a few PhD classes next year since I'll be kicking around town while H finishes his phd... you know who'll be showing up with how do I and what do I do to kind of questions again!!

I'm sure you'll have no problem getting accepted as a non-degree seeking student.

In my case, I'm just to tired by the time I come home. I promise myself I will get it done this weekend. Really.

Yup. I know that feeling. Good luck with your weekend cleaning!

So after I was done talking to Gunn, I was disappointed to learn that you had taken a late lunch.

Thanks in advance for the upcoming weekend - you guys are a bad influence on me, but I suppose I can let loose for one more day at Faire.

And, if you're not too busy (ha!), there's always a standing invite for you to join the rest of us downtown for wings and/or beer.

Sorry! But maybe you'll have the pleasure of my company this evening. I've been relieved of my last sewing commission for the season, so I have a bit of time, if not a bit of extra energy.

Which kind do you have? Any of those on the website?

Mine is called the Ionatha (sp?) Plant - I got it as a gift because of the purple flowers and pink leaves on it. I adore mine. It now at my mom's house in my bathroom there since I moved to canada. She took care of it for me since I could not move planted across the border. I just left it with her.

Cool! And thank you for the fill-in.

I have a friend who has been lobbying for me to move to Toronto. I imagine he'll be chiming in any moment here. =D

BTW...that class is at City In Motion on Sunday nights. They may add a second class soon, though. Apparently it's doing well!
