New friends, new crushes, new bodices

Due to headaches and stories about stupidity too funny to mar with other information, I haven't yet mentioned that I finally got to meet the fabulous [livejournal.com profile] medousamedea over the weekend. I don't think I need to tell you how it warmed this old fag hag's heart to see charming, attractive, and gregarious gay boys still inhabit the area. It was bliss. Bliss! I tell you. Thanks a million, [livejournal.com profile] shrijani for the introduction. I so owe you.

In other news, I'm kind of developing an internet crush on [livejournal.com profile] shanmonster. She just seems so cool! I'd love to take some bellydance lessons from her. Get this: geek gamer girl, funky fusion bellydancer, currently furthering her physical abilities and training by taking pole dance lessions. Seriously, people. What's not to love there? And she's in the Toronto vicinity, so it's not like I don't know anyone else in the area...oh, temptations temptations. I think that'll have to wait until after the Italy trip, though. Well, you know, and at some point I should probably introduce myself and ask if she'd be interested in having me drop in on a couple of her classes. Me? Ahead of myself? Never.

Finally (or at least the final point of this entry), it looks like the RenFest whores have been asked to be on a float (gods please let it be a float and not walking) in the KC St. Pat's Parade. Never one to turn down a costuming opportunity, I leapt on the chance for a new costume that most likely I will wear once, unless we do the parade again. Yes, that's why I needed my bodice pattern. I got the entire bodice together last night (stayed up a bit too late but oh well) and now just have to whipstitch the bottom closed. I made the bodice a wee bit too small because since we're not subject to the standards of KCRF costuming rules, I want to have the front laced but open with the chemise peeking through all down the front, sans modesty panel. I like that look--it gives an extra bit of sluttish oomph that I find quite fetching, but is, alas, verboten at faire. (Yes, [livejournal.com profile] rougewench, I completely understand why.) Tonight: Skirt! I will use one of my current chemises and I think I can use my current gold bloomers--we'll see how they look with the green skirt and gold petticoat.

I adore that look, too. One of my Cincinnati years I wore a lovely bodice that Natalie made, and it was open in a huge V down the front - about as much as all my bodices would be sans modesty panel. I totally understand why we don't get to do that regularly, but it is just oh so whorish. Can't wait to see it on you. Yum.

I'm so glad someone else gets this. I can't even explain why it's so much sluttier, having that V. It just...is. And y'all know I love me some sluttish.

I just loved this whole entry.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
My job here is done.

And someday, we will get to hang out together. In person. I feel it in my bones. With luck, there will also be much loud music and club dancing, yo, followed by a late breakfast and good coffee.

Sluttish

[identity profile] the-themiscyran.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that look, too. I made a screaming blood red dress with it, since costuming guidelines were slightly, ummm, looser at the faire we worked in New Jersey. I'm still thinking about making a courtesan costume with that line, even if I don't have anywhere offical to wear it. Just for fun.

And green and gold? Yummy!

I am feeling even sicker today--but reading your entry made me laugh. I hope the weather will cooperate for the parade so you don't freeze your slutty boobies off!

Interesting! It seems to have a common appeal. That V line taking the eye down the body or something.

We need more costume parties...

I'm used to freezing my slutty boobies off--we usually have a couple chilly days at faire. Luckily, I still have my fingerless gloves and a wrap to wear.

I'm sorry you're feeling worse, but I'm glad I could make you laugh. Feel better soon!

We totally do.

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I rather wonder if we can get some dispensation on that point with the office, if we are going to be "sanctioned adult characters"...

It might be worth the ask.

I hate to push it. I don't want them to decide we're asking too much and then take away our printed bloomers for godssake.

I met [livejournal.com profile] shanmonster. She is quite cool in person. Lots of boppy good energy.

:^)

If I make it to Toronto in the next year or so, I promise you'll be the first to know.

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know that it would necessarily be "pushing it" (although I do appreciate your concern for how we must take such things into account. An open front bodice (depending on the nature of the open front) would be a simple way to set us apart from the "proper girls". There are ways to do it so that it looks good and ways that don't. We would simply take the route of good looks and design.

The problem would be people wanting to copy the design. Meaning, it becomes a problem when people bitch "but the whores get to do it!".

Yeah, because we're whores.

It's simply something I could mention in a discussion with Jim, should I have an opportunity over the course of the summer. Nothing to voraciously pursue, but if I can get the perk, it would be a good thing.

Excuse me while I indulge in a truly queer moment:

SQUEEEEEEEEE!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! I take any reasons to make myself new bodices.

[identity profile] grnvixen.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The 'V' line, as it was called below, is classic Italian courtesan. A website:http://www.renaissancewoman.net/realmofvenus/wardrobe/wardrobe.htm
In the showcase link are lot of pics of folks who have been making courtesan costumes lately, mostly inspired by Dangerous Beauty :).

I think you definately have grounds to push this, only problem might be the Italian court and how he wants them costumed.

See, girls? We have excellent intuitive design taste.

Where did they go?

[identity profile] bodandra.livejournal.com 2007-03-08 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
(I miss all the gay friends I made when I moved here.)
On the other hand - I bet you look Hot in the bodice!

[identity profile] darkgaze2002.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
hehehe! Yeah, I had to resist all urges to strip down to knickers out of court garb whenever I saw you girls strolling. I wanna excuse to make a flashy dress like that, but I'd never wear it out. It will look marvelous on you! Fight tooth and nail to keep printed bloomers, they did away with that the year before I left and I thought it was so stupid. If you're doing your job right, as a "proper" citizen, nobody should ever see your knickers anyway, so why should it matter?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)

That's good to hear! We're doing something right, then!

[identity profile] slinka.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely, come to Toronto.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-03-09 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
You bet. Maybe next summer!

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2007-03-26 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
W00t! We shall have to have a get-together....

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-03-26 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. And, er, now that I know I'm completely impressed by you...um, can I come to one of your classes when I visit? =D

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2007-03-26 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind at all! But my classes are generally very introductory, alas. I'm not sure you'd find them very useful.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2007-03-26 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Nonsense. I never turn down an opportunity to learn new twists on basic technique. You have some of the best, most innovative ideas I've heard of for your classes. I envy your students.

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2007-03-26 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, shucks!
