Moon, allergies, and sewing

This morning, [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick and I woke up to my alarm beeping at 5:20. We fumbled around, found our eyeglasses, staggered to the window...and barely saw a full red moon just about to disappear into the tree line. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick figured by the time it reached totality it would be out of our view. There was no way it would have been possible to view it through the telescope. It was too low. Dang.

Fast-5 is going well, although I didn't get my exercise this morning. I needed more sleep, but what with the 5:30 return-to-bed, I only had 45 minutes until my normal alarm time. So I was lazy and set the alarm for 7:00. Sometimes sleep is more important than exercise. I'm going to run the stairs a few times today to make up for it.

My eyes aren't puffy anymore, but the skin around them still itches. I've never experienced that before. My eyes don't itch, but just under my eyes, the area that was baggy and puffed--that part itches. It feels rough and dry, too. I need to smear a little cortizone cream on there, but I keep forgetting.

Dr. Burt said taking Astelin and Claritin at the same time wouldn't help anything if the Claritin was already failing in the nose-drip arena. Which it was. So now I'm taking a double dose of Astelin. Two sprays in each nostril, twice a day. Gag. I wish this stuff didn't taste so awful. It's so bitter that I can't drink tea or coffee within an hour of my dose or the bitterness is intensified to the point where I nearly can't swallow the beverage. Just. Plain. Nasty.

Tonight, [livejournal.com profile] cedarsong and I are hitting Hancock Fabrics for last-minute Faire-sewing supplies. I'll have [livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy's bloomers done for opening weekend, and after that:

New dance bedlah! I got the sewing room arranged and organized last weekend, and looking at all the beads and baubles and fabric made me itch for a new costume. Now I have to decide which one I'm going to make. I have fabric and ideas for three different costumes: Red and purple; Lime green and black; Black velvet and metal. Perhaps I should do that last one before the goth-metal-bellydance look goes out of style. Maybe I could get it done in time for the late October gig at Aladdin's.

Hm. Time to go run the stairs.

Maybe you'll hate me for this, but I too watched the lunar eclipse. Difference was, I did it on a warm island with my toes in the Indian Ocean. Ahhhhh. . .

Nah, I don't hate you. Sounds lovely! I'm glad somebody I know got to see it in a good environment.

Actually, I'd go with lime green and purple :) :) :).

Um. Except I want people to enjoy looking at me while I'm dancing...

Trust me, even in burlap they will enjoy :).

With the nose spray it helps if you aims towards the outside of your nose a little bit...helps it go to the right place instead of down your throat. Made me crazy before a nurse showed me that one.
AND! your not alone in the eye itchy thing. Mine have been a little gross (though seemingly less gross than yours) lately too. I used to have an allergy eye drop prescription called Patanol...I'm thinking about calling my doc and seeing if they still make it...

Aw! =D

Faboo! Thank you for the tip!

It was lovely! of course I couldn't fall back asleep until 6 and now am all messed up!

is the allergy spray OTC or prescription??? I'm out of Allegra nd that was so damn expensive anyway. Claritin is fine if its a light allergy, but with heavy duty face pain, drippage, etc..its not effective...

Lucky west-coast girl! I'm happy you got to see it!!!

The Astelin is prescription. Interesting that you say Claritin is for light allergies. My allergies are anything but "light." The fact that my (worthless) previous doctor prescribed a "light" anti-histimine is annoying. I used Zyrtec for a long time, but when I changed insurance for KU, it wasn't covered by the formulary and was super-expensive.

I despise insurance companies and managed health care.

The eclipse was incredible, though as she said, we only woke up a little while ago as a result (fortunately I'm on vacation). Wish I'd had the telescope. This was one of those extremely rare non-foggy nights in San Francisco, and when the eclipse went full, it was like looking at a dark red balloon just hanging, impossibly still, over the city. It reminded me of the big fake moons you'd see hanging over the sets of the old TV show, Space: 1999.

I believe there is another full eclipse coming in February of next year. Chances are, with our weather, we won't be able to see it, but you'll have more luck!

That sounds so amazing!!! Too bad we couldn't loan you [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick's telescope for the night. =)

Thank you for the heads-up on the February eclipse. It might be chilly, but most likely will be clear for us that time of year.
