Thursday is Day of Video!

I think I need a hedgie.

Be sure to mute it or the annoying women talking in the background will make you stab your eardrums out with a chopstick.

I think everyone needs to spread the word about McCain's voting record for birth control and women's rights.

I missed saying goodbye to Cyd Charisse yesterday.

HOT.

My computer is still fucked up in various annoying ways. *sigh*

OMG that hedgehog is deadly. (And for about two minutes there, I was worried it WAS dead). Who knew they were so cute? NOT ME!

Although I love that clip of Cyd... I just don't think it gets better than the torch dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YWBOfsXsDA&feature=related) from Singing in the Rain. So. Hot.

I think what I like so much about the one I posted is that she hasn't developed her femme fatale persona yet. Her dancing in that clip is so young and exuberant and...happy sexy as opposed to smouldering sexy.

I totally see that. And I have to admit that half of what I love so much about the SITR clip is the interaction between her and Gene. I mean, SHIT. I think he compliments her better than Montalban.

We used to have a hedgehog (named Alexander). I refer to them as a guinea pig cactus, but quite honestly a guinea pig is smarter. They look cute, but aren't cuddly and often aren't even friendly.

The funny part is that they are illegal in Lawrence. We have a pretty strict pet ordinance since some idiots mountain lion escaped back in the 90's and the city clamped down in 1992 with a short list of what is allowed.

Oh, really? That's sad. A co-worker from years ago had a pygmy hedgie that was just adorable and so friendly. I wonder if she was just lucky and got a mutant charmer.

Good information to have, though. Thanks!

Thank you so much for posting that clip of Cyd Charisse. I didn't realize till now how much of an influence she was for me. I adored her (still do) when I was a kid. Going to have to go hunt up so more videos of her.

Watching her (and [livejournal.com profile] cera's dancing makes me want to take a modern dance class. And I have never been a fan of modern dance.

I hear you. A couple of weeks ago I was chatting with my friend Sally and we were brainstorming ideas for burlesque bits and I encouraged her to do an Ode to Cyd. Seeing these videos makes *me* want to do an ode to her. Would take loads of work to get my dancing to a place that I would feel like I could do it some justice. But seriously...watching these videos of her over the past couple of days...ha ha, I remember the first "whore" I played..in H.S. I was one of the pin up can can girls in Jud's shack in "Oklahoma" during the dream ballet sequence, and I remember my mom being slightly horrified after the first show and asking me where I'd learned to do that. I couldn't answer at the time but in retrospect... I learned a lot of it from watching Cyd Charisse dance.

Random H.S. production of dream ballet sequence. Think we there must be stock choreography 'cause this looks an awful lot like what we did.

Did you ever perform in the Lawrence Choreographer's Showcase?

[identity profile] lightonthesill.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's been about 5 years, but yes, I have.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you do an interpretation of Mein Herr?

[identity profile] lightonthesill.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee hee, yes, I sang it and Sally danced. That year she and I did a few "I sing, she danced" experiences.

The following year I did another piece with her each dancer was an element Earth, Air, Fire, Water and I was "spirit" all in gold body paint.

Keen!

[identity profile] lightonthesill.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
You m'dear have made my day. I'd forgotten about that and have been searching for some vocal burlesque bits to do especially ones with music I'm already comfortable with... and lo... there is a karaoke version of Mein Herr on itunes in my key. *broad grin* Thanks for that little reminder. :)

Yay for day-making! Happy to help.

Forgot to turn down sound for the hedgehog clip - and then was fascinated with the inanity of the falsetto running commentary. Yes, ladies, when a small animal who can't find footing in the tub swims up to you, looks up at you plaintively, and scrabbles at the edge of the tub, it means "I want out. NOW." Though he probably floated as long as he did with his ears submerged so he wouldn't have to listen...

But the hedgie was super cute - who knew they could float like that?

Or thinking "is it possible to drown intentionally in three inches of water?"

I didn't turn down the hedgie sound, ow! but the other two clips made up for it.
