Frailty, thy name is woman
Ugh. Laid low by menstrual cramps.
They, not the thunder, woke me up at 5:30 this morning. I got up at 5:45 and did as much of my promised routine as I could. I kept my heart rate quite high for about five minutes at a time, after which I had to take it easy for a few minutes before increasing intensity again. I lasted a little over twenty minutes and then went on to my strengthening and stretching. I skipped all the ab work, except for a tiny bit of Boat Pose, and Plank Pose. Plank pose was okay. Or rather, I should say my uterus was okay with Plank Pose. Boat Pose did not go over well, and my body declared that the last straw before my stretching cool-down.
I did the best I could today, though, and I'll do the best I can tomorrow.
To clarify (since I think a lot of people maybe have an incorrect idea about my definition of "hard cardio" when it applies to me):
Easy cardio -- Easy but brisk activity. Allows me to converse, if a tiny bit winded while I do it. Examples: a moderately paced walk up an incline, 4 mph on the Nordic Track, medium tempo 3/4 shimmy while walking.
Hard cardio -- Fast and demanding activity. I can get out short sentences in a burst, but conversation is right out. Examples: a fast walk up an incline, 6 mph on the Nordic Track, fast shimmy while moving quickly, layered with an undulation and while flinging a veil around.
Most people reading this LJ know me. You know I'm not an athlete. Visions of me sprinting up the 14th Street hill and calling that my "hard cardio" are delusional or, at least, sorely inaccurate.
