Doom upon me

Ugh. Headache still, accompanied by aching ears and the final blow: white patches on my tonsils. I've scheduled a 9:00 a.m. doctor's appointment that will hopefully result in a negative strep test and a pat on the head saying "just ride it out, you'll feel better in three days."

UPDATE: No strep--tonsillitis. I got lectured again about getting these babies out. I'm terrified of getting my tonsils out. Ugh. Too bad they can't schedule a tonsillectomy at the same time as my tubal ligation next month. As soon as I get off work here I'm off to the pharmacy to fill a 'script for a Z-pack. Go, Z-pack, go!

NoooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOooooooo!!!

Let it be a bug, that rest and snuggling will cure, and get well soon! Let us know if you need anything, etc!

hey, you didn't tell me you're getting spayed~! We must celebrate!
If you need to know anything, I'm happy to share the details of mine. ;) Best decision I ever made.
Get better soon, please. Ugh, sick on holidays off. Poor girl.

I really didn't tell you? Geez, I would have thought you were one of the first I told! Man, my memory is going right down the toilet. But yeah, my surgery date is January 14 and my mommy is coming to take care of me! Isn't that great? I'm pretty excited. Everyone I've ever talked to said it was a breeze and one of the best decisions ever. So I'm pretty calm about it.

NOT so calm about getting tonsils out, though. Don't wanna don't wanna don't wanna.

I did it when I was 20, and would have to say it's not horrible. I had a better time than I'd expected. That said, ice cream doesn't have the same appeal as it is portrayed after a tonsillectomy. :) Glad it's not strep, but hope it doesn't ruin your Christmas Eve plans, if any.

Yeah, I've always thought the idea of putting something sweet and milky over a burn wound ws a strange concept. Or were yours sutured instead of cauterized?

[identity profile] bellanorth.livejournal.com 2003-12-24 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
Sutured. Unlimited ice cream just didn't appeal when 1) food in general was not desirable, and 2) the act of swallowing it was sensitive to painful depending on where I was with the Demerol cycle.

Crap about the tonsils... I got mine done a LONG time ago, though, so I've sort of forgotten about it. =) Tubal ligations aren't too bad... the only thing you should look "forward" to is the "getting run over by a truck" feeling you get from reabsorbing the gas they use to inflate you. =) Sort of like having the bends, and it seems to focus in the shoulders for some weird reason. But yeah, I felt pretty good even a day or two after. =) Hoorah for codeine!! ;)

Eat lots of christmas ice cream to cheer your poor tonsils up in the meantime. =)

Yep. I am so done with being on birth control hormones. So so so done. I've been on BC for nearly half my life!!!! And I've known since I was, oh, four or so that I didn't want kids so this isn't a big wrenching decision for me. I'm pretty excited about it.

Ugh, your tonsil story is terrifying. Perhaps I will build myself a bubble to live in until I'm healed. I caught the flu when I had my wisdom teeth out (years ago) and I don't want another experience like that ever again.

Well, I don't think I'll be getting the tonsils out anytime soon. Maybe next winter. I dunno. I'm a pansy. You're the third person who's mentioned the annoying gas thing. That sounds just fabulous. Luckily, my mommy is very good at backrubs. Go, mom!

Congrats on the tubal. Know that you have to keep the stairs and lifting limited for 2-3 weeks at least, and your stomach muscles will feel week. I had to not carry my purse for quite a while.

Yowza, I hadn't read LJ until tonight -- tonsilities? No wonder you were in your jammies today!

> -- healing waves -- <

I got my tonsils out when I was, what, four or so. I remember being fed popsicles, because there's no real swallowing involved (it's cold and wet). It wasn't so bad, except the feeling of being punched in the inside-back of the throat every swallow. But if a 4-year-old can do it...! If there's ANY way to have them do both, that would make things easier. The anesthesia is the most dangerous part of surgery (I mean, besides the being cut open in a hospital part).

Best,
Chris

at that point not very big - I was limited to what I could hold in one hand without a container
