Team building exercise -- ur doin it rong

An update on the Wescoe Secret Santa thing, because I think it's too funny not to share.

It's split between people who want to do the Secret Santa, people who want to adopt a family, and people who want to do both. That's totally cool with me. I titled my email "An alternative to Secret Santa" so people who didn't want to do the Secret Santa would have...an alternative. Right? The Secret Santa idea was presented as a way to bolster friendship between the administrative staff--I have nothing against that at all.

Here's where it gets funny.

Two of the secretaries in other departments wrote long emails about how they thought the adopt-a-family was a great idea, but the Secret Santa project last year was so great and really helped bolster their spirits during the holiday season and they want to do it again. Okay, fine. It took them four paragraphs (each) to justify this, rather than the one line responses I got that wanted to do the adopt-a-family. Whatever.

But see, this is the first time any of the English department secretaries have ever heard about a Secret Santa exchange in Wescoe. This little community and camaraderie-building project? English wasn't invited last year at all. And in the emails to convince us about this fabulous and fun activity, they just outed themselves and the other departments as having had this "community experience" last year that excluded English--the largest department in Wescoe (possibly the largest department in the College of Liberal Arts).

That, my friends, is comedy gold.
