This is how you make a girl feel good
Yesterday I received one of the best compliments ever. It was the equivalent of being at a posh dance club and being asked to dance by a gorgeous gay black man.
I was in the main hallway talking to one of the students I know from French & Italian. One of her professors wandered by and got pulled into the conversation. We somehow went from discussing Lolita (neither of them had seen the Jeremy Irons movie--tragic!) to Mary symbolism and religious kitch. No, I have no idea how. I mentioned my love of popular Catholic iconography and the professor (charming, blonde, and British) invited us to his office to see some old (17th Century!) books he had with religious woodcarvings made for meditative purposes.
They were deliciously morbid, graphic, horrifying, and wonderful. He referred to one in particular as "porn." And really, it was.
While we were in the office, we continued our conversation and I gave the occasional dry throw-away line. My friend took one seriously and I reassured her that I was only being sarcastic. The (charming, blonde, British) professor looked at me and said "And you do it very well."

And then as I was headed back toward my office, my friend gave me a Padre Pio prayer card! Yay! While she watched, I tacked him up next to my picture of Justin Timberlake.
I felt good all damn day.
