If you're going to call the president, at least know the area code

That has to be one of the best NPR quotes ever. And it wasn't even from one of the announcers--it was an interviewee. Also on NPR this morning: I've never followed any designer in particular, except for Jean-Paul Gaultier (and OMG how can you not, in his case?). But the interview with Isaac Mizrahi was nothing short of adorable. What a charming-sounding man. I realize that nobody puts on a bad face to be interviewed on radio (ba-dum-dum), but he was lively, personable, and seemed to have done his homework regading the interviewing host. So charming! I wish I could get into his style more. What I've seen doesn't do it for me. It's not offensive, but not especially memorable, either. Except maybe for these shoes. *thud* Maybe I'm just looking at the wrong collections?

Woo! Now Liane Hansen is talking with someone, I missed his name, about cocktails. He brought up the Martini Issue--calling all mixed drinks Martini instead of just a cocktail. I agree with him. Even though I go out for "martinis" every so often, and enjoy them immensely, they are Not Martinis. A martini is made with gin, vermouth, and an olive. You can make it with vodka, but then it's called a Vodka Martini. Or "Martini-Style Cocktail For People Who Don't Like Gin", which I think would be a more appropriate name, although difficult to yell at your mixmaster across a loud bar.

Fashion and booze! Weekend Edition certainly is keeping me good company this morning.

UPDATE: 9:34 a.m. Holy crap. Now they're talking about Penny-Arcade. WTF???
