Downtown yesterday was a lot of fun. I didn't expect it to be quite such a good time, but yay!
mckitterick and I met up with
charmed_art,
cba1282zyx, and LJ-less N at Jackpot, where
scary_manilow was tending bar. We snagged the front booth so got to peek through the gaps in the posters at the parade. Or, rather, "parade." There were only a couple entries that should have been in an organized parade. Things like that remind me that Lawrence is still a small(ish) town, though, so it makes me happy.
The cover band that was playing while we were at Jackpot were a ton of fun. Lots of classic rock, some old-style country & western, and some shocking talent by a 19-year-old kid on guitar. I didn't get the name of the band, but they should take over some of the Sunday summer afternoon shows at Replay. I'd be much more inclined to spend some time (and beer money) on Replay's back porch if these guys were playing instead of the usual parade of bluegrass bands. Bluegrass just isn't my thing.
I discovered my tolerance is way way way higher than I want. I had four pints of Guinness (or was it five?) and I was walking a perfectly solid, straight line to the bathroom every time. It was a nice companionable sort of mild buzz, though, and I managed to sew the curtains for the front room without any injuries, so I shouldn't complain.
Today: Haircut, second set of curtains (for the window in the T.V. area of the living room) and then perhaps some book organization this evening. I wonder if I'll regret not having some help for that. Climbing up and down the ladder with a single armload of books might not be the best method...
My apologies for not responding to comments. I'm only online once, in the morning, since I'm trying to limit my computer time. It is vacation, after all. I am continuing to take a daily photo, but I don't have any good photo editing software at home, so cropping is a pain in the ass. I'll post the whole week at once when I return to work next week.

Sounds like a great vacation!

As for the tolerance thing, Guinness actually has a pretty low alcohol content compared to other beers (only like 4.2%). That could be part of the reason. I drank MANY o' Guinness yesterday, too, with very little consequence.

Yah, I've never seen so many fire trucks in one parade!
I kinda miss doing the Red Lyon Float, but not doing it is so much less hassle. The Alice in Wonderland tea shop float was charming.
The Picnic editing tools right off flickr are pretty good for a quickie online.. even have a pet red-eye corrector!
Bands.. yay! Don't remember who it was? SUNU? Deadman Flats? Brody Buster? I saw them getting ready to set up just after the parade and I really like them, but alas, had to take a "tired" fella home. ;)
Happy Vacation!

Reminds me of the old funny about celebrating St Pat's day with a seven-course Irish Meal: a sixer of Guinness, and a potato. :D

I've been informed that the name of the band was 45 RPM. I'd never heard of them before, ever, but they were So Much Fun!

Not only did the thought briefly cross my mind (but Wak does have tons of equipment and many more stations than just one) but I was totally amused by the huge letters on the back of their trucks:
WTFD
