Sucker

Does anyone have opinions/advice about hand-held, cordless vacuums? You know, Dustbuster sorts of things. I'm getting ready to clean and alphabetize the bookshelves (finally) and I think using a vacuum instead of a dust cloth would be a very wise choice.

*achoo!*

Thanks for any info on your experiences with a particular model--good or bad.

A Dyson handheld is a DREAM, but expensive. I recommend borrowing one from a friend if you can...

I absolutely love our $15 Black and Decker Dustbuster thing. We use it all the time for picking up random fuzzballs and sweepings around the place. Cat hair, etc. Easier than hauling out the big beast.

Oh and miraculous for reorganizing rooms/packing/moving etc.

Do you by any chance have the model number handy?

I'd rather buy one right now. I'd like to use it for more frequent tidying of the area around the hamster cage, kitty litter, etc. But yeah, I don't have the scratch for something like that right now.

I tried a B&D cordless and didn't like it. But, it was a long time ago and they have probably improved.
I have a DirtDevel mini with a verrry long cord that I love, cos it has a larger bag than the Dustbuster kinds. I can even use it to do the car, if I ever get ambitious enough to do that again, because it has a little rotating brush like a full vac.

That Vac and Sew place on 23rd has many models you could probably try out!

Can't have a cord at all. I'm going to be up on a ladder cleaning those bookshelves in the front room. The last thing I want to worry about is tripping over a cord or having the cord be just a wee bit too short.

Going someplace that will let me try one out is a really good idea. Thank you!

Ah.. I find mine easy to work around, but yah. I like that you can buy accessories for it... but then again,
this (http://www.amazon.com/Dirt-Devil-KURV-Hand-Vac/dp/B000U8LCPO/ref=sr_1_39?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1237910408&sr=1-39)is just adorable!

Unfortunately, that one has pretty bad reviews. Short battery life and light suction. Not a good combo.

Bummer. It looks so cute.

Oh well, function over form!

Considering your general issues with allergies, you'd probably want to shoot for HEPA filtration. In your position, I'd be going for one of these (http://www.filterstream.com/us/index.php?p=products&do=showdetail&id=16&PHPSESSID=baed69180cec23c071fabb850f687fe0). You can get them from a couple of places through Amazon.com.

Luckily, I don't have many indoor environmental allergies (unless the building has a mold infestation). Pet hair is no problem, and I'm only mildly bothered by dust.

It is the 2006 version of this one: http://doitbest.com/Main.aspx?PageID=64&SKU=601263&utm_source=Froogle&utm_medium=FREECSE&utm_term=601263&utm_content=6790&utm_campaign=DATAFEED

Thank you! The Black & Deckers certainly have the best online reviews.
