Drained

I'm tired. Really tired. And I'm tired of being tired. I've been tired for a month now.

Ugh.

For the next three days (until I leave for Indy), I'm going to exercise in the evening because I just can't haul myself out of bed to do it in the morning--this is very unusual for me. So in an effort to boost my energy level to the point where I can resume my morning workouts, I'm going to do them at night. Here's hoping.

Have you gotten your thyroid checked lately?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Very recently. And I asked him about my energy levels. But my numbers were very nearly exactly the same as this time last year, when I was not having these problems.

In all honesty, I'm sure it's my lack of exercise and the fact that I've been allowing myself WAY too many carbs in my diet.

I'm glad it's not your thyroid. It's an easy (pill) fix but its annoying.

Good luck with exercising.

I'm sure that plan will work for you. Me I get tired when I hear about people getting up before work to work out. SO not a morning person.

Yeah. My prescription (I take Levoxyl) has been successful and stable for four or five years and my endocrinologist is retiring next month. Now is not when I want to go messing about with my dosage.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
And I can't stay up past 10:00 p.m. without feeling like crap the next day. =D

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
See and I just deal with feeling like crap, which is prolly why I'm so cranky!

Had a nap Saturday and I was freaking Mary Sunshine after!

I've been lucky lately. My thyroid seems to be recovering a bit.

[identity profile] cmt2779.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck with this! I still can't understand people who can a) get up early in the morning and do anything other than shower, eat, and be grumpy and b) actually exercise first thing.

I can ride my bike for exercise first thing in the morning (which is for me, of course, no earlier than 8 am--nothing ridiculous), but somehow that feels different.

[identity profile] kalimeg.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope it works for you. Being tired can have a lot of reasons.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Body chemistry is so weird. I love the way I feel when I'm regularly exercising in the morning! Which is why it's so frustrating that I'm having such problems right now.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. But I'm 99% certain that my low energy levels are entirely due to poor diet choices and bad exercise habits lately.

[identity profile] amjhawk.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
In my own workout researches, I ran across an interesting tidbit that pointed out that the best time to workout is at about 2:00 p.m., as that's when your body is at its peak point for the day.

Of course, your schedule and your body may be far from typical, and unfortunately, I'm not sure if your workday would allow for that. It worked very well for me, though, as I made that my typical workout time back when I was in amazing shape in Lawrence.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say I'm far from typical, yeah. =\

I have serious doubts about any study that says one specific time is a peak exercise time for all of humanity. Making an exception for hugely general statements like "everybody needs to eat" or "everybody needs to sleep" or "everybody needs to breathe" etc., I can't think of any one thing I'd trust to be true for everyone--irregardless of whether it fit one's lifestyle schedule.

Myself? I take a nap at 2:00 p.m. nearly every day.

Yeah, I have my doubts as well - especially with regards to exercise research, as it seems that something new comes out every day that contradicts something else.

I think, though, that it does assume a certain "typicality" of people waking up at about 7am, and going to bed at 11pm. And, perhaps allowing for sunlight and its contribution to the diurnal cycle, typical time for meals, etc.

But yes, taking everything with a grain of salt is always a good plan. And I hope you find a good schedule!

God, so do I. This really blows. I feel like a damn slug.

it does assume a certain "typicality" of people waking up at about 7am, and going to bed at 11pm

My body, left to its own devices, would happily go to sleep at 8:30 or 9p and wake up around 5:30 or 6a--which was awesome, because that gave me plenty of time to exercise, and I was waking up without an alarm so I wasn't groggy.

When I was living by myself and had no social obligations, I fell into that cycle pretty easily. It felt great. Except I could never go out in the evenings.

[identity profile] frugurl27.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Just be glad your body generally tends to keep hours that mesh relatively well with the real world. My body's natural inclination to sleep at 2AM, then wake up at 9 or 10 AM isn't very practical (though I suppose it lends itself well to going out in the evenings).

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2009-03-30 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
My opinion is that if we could all live our lives around our natural sleep cycles, we'd be a happier, more peaceful society.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
That time schedule works fine for 90% of our faculty!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2009-03-31 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Totally.

Sorry you are low energy. My energy level lately has been down--and I've been getting that funky feeling again like I had when I was seeing the sleep specialist and he said I might be narcoleptic. SO I can relates--it SUCKS! I even did yoga the other day hoping it would help. but it just got me out of my cranky mood and made me feel like I wanted to go to sleep.

This "lovely" weather we are having today isn't helping.I hope you can figure out a good solution to get your groove back.
