Holey moley (boring work stuff)
What a day! 'Bout 11:00 this morning, the assistant Dean for the graduate school brought an enormous stack of application materials to my desk. He assured me that things would be running a little more smoothly now. That's all well and good, but cripes, this stack of stuff kept me filing until 3:25. And I still haven't put away the files, just sorted everything into their respective folders.
Today I created 30 new application files. That's 30 new folders, in addition to all the materials I added to existing folders. Yes, this is the main point of my job and honestly, I do enjoy organizing things and filing. But to do it for nearly 4 and a half hours (no not even a lunch break) is absolutely exhausting. Details details details! 'Cos you know, if that letter of rec gets filed in the wrong folder baby you are never gonna find it again.
Tomorrow I alphabetize all the new folders and file them with the existing folders. Then search and sort for people who are close to completing their files. I can't believe that we haven't even reviewed the applicants for the first batch and the second batch files are already staring me in the face.
Also, one of the computer administrator types came by my office today to let me know he was recommending me for "power user" status. Now it is in the hands of the folks down in LSS to approve or deny that.
Slowly I turn. Step by step. But at least now things are moving. I think it helped that my department chair mailed them a "What The Hell" letter. My department chair rocks. Ar ar ar. Sorry 'bout that. Going home now.
