5HTP
Last night, after going for drinks with
shrijani and
pamelonian, I went to look in on the guinea pigs of some folks who are out of town. Fed them, watered them, tried to put them (I had only a 25% success rate on that).
Coming home, I drove past the Merc and I remembered a couple people on the Yahoo! Fructose Malabsorption list talk about using 5HTP for their fruc-mal* depression issues. Wiki article on it here. I popped in and bought a bottle ($15/30 pills--yikes). I don't know if it's psychological, but I do feel better today. Of course, the fact that I'm leaving early for a three-day weekend doesn't hurt. What does hurt is my stomach. The directions on the 5HTP say that it can cause stomach upset and nausea which I can vouch for. I woke up around 5:00 this morning with some stomach pain (no nausea yet), but was able to fall back asleep. Tummy still feels a little delicate. I think I'll only take this on my big eating days Su-T-R-Sa. The stomach discomfort certainly discourages me from eating on my light food days, so there's at least one benefit.
I washed my hair this morning. Big mistake. I did it so I wouldn't be tempted to wash it this weekend with the shampoo at the hotel (I love using the little sample bottles of 'poo), but now it is totally out of control. I should have worn a head scarf.
I think I shall leave at 10:00 a.m. instead of noon. I've wrapped up all my loose ends here at the office and if I go home earlier I can squeeze in a couple loads of laundry and a trip downtown to Weaver's for some new underwear and peds. I have only two pairs of peds left (that I can find). WTF?
* I don't know if this is an actual abbreviation, but I'm getting tired of writing out "Fructose Malabsorption" over and over.

I love spending time with the girl I'm rooming with and we never get to hang out (she has a kid and we're both so busy). So this is about the only time of the year we get to spend more than an hour in each other's company. Yay!

I haven't packed a thing yet, either! I'm still trying to figure out if I'm going to bother bringing a dress and lookin' all purty for Saturday night since I'm not participating in the Masquerade.
EDIT: sigh. OK, well never mind. Weaver's doesn't have any in stock. Off to Target I go!

I tried taking 5HTP for depression quite a few years ago, and didn't notice a difference. But maybe I was more depressed because it was expensive. It's supposed to be kind of a fix-all for all kinds of things, including sleeping better for people with narcolepsy. I wish it had done something for me!
