Desk and files are tidy. I have time to work on graduate student issues (you know, my real job) this morning.

The cut on my finger is nearly healed closed. The doctor said on Tuesday that the stitches probably weren't ready to come out yet, but he didn't see the point in making me come back in 48 hours. He took them out, but I've had to keep the wound closed with this special tape stuff. I took a good look this morning and it's closed except for what I would assume would have been the scab area if it had been allowed to scab over. The finger is still very swollen and sore to the touch. I don't know if that's normal.

But the top view has me a little worried. Why so swollen, still?


I find it fascinating how the wrinkles in the joint of that finger have started to fade. It's probably partially caused by the swelling, but that part of the finger isn't swollen, so it's got to be caused mostly from keeping the joint taped, splinted, and still for two weeks. If I can figure out how to tape and splint my smile lines, I'm set for life.

And finally, Happy Birthday Nikola Tesla! What fabulous timing--I finally got the Tesla print hung up in my office this week.

I don't know why, but I want you to move the ring from the injured finger. Maybe I feel like it shouldn't have a decoration if it has hurt itself. More like, I feel if it's swollen it should be moved.

I can't remove it. =(

I tried to take it off when I cut it (like immediately after I cut it--it was the first thing I did) but I couldn't get it off without the ring getting caught in the wound.

Ew, right?

And now I can't get it off because of the swelling. Heh. Heh-heh. Get off. Swelling.

Ah that makes more sense to me then. So didn't you ask the doc why it was still swollen and painful. It really seems like it shouldn't be.

I didn't notice the swelling while the stitches were in. I think I was just preoccupied with those. Or something. I don't feel like paying another $20 for an office visit just to be told "oh, it's nothing."

I might call my mom tonight, though.

God, I'm so lucky to have a mom with an RN degree.

This was the first attempt at this pattern, so it doesn't fit all that great. But I felt like wearing a new dress today, and my other new dress (http://www.flickr.com/photos/23686442@N03/3660062638/) that's not in the laundry hamper is dark colored. Not a good choice for today.

BTW, I have a ton of this cherry gingham fabric (and the same print, in yellow gingham) if you ever want to buy some. It's a nice heavy weight cotton and washes very well. I used the yellow for my summertime house dress (http://www.flickr.com/photos/23686442@N03/3695050028/), which is now about five years old and still wearing quite well.

I'm glad it's looking better - but do you suppose there's still some fluid built up under the cut? My dad had that problem a month ago when he accidentally ran a knife into the back of his hand...

And hmmm. I wonder. Because yeah, it's really puffy. What did your dad do? Hopefully not re-open and drain the thing. *shudder*
