Dinner guest

You know those generic ice-breaker questions, one of which is "If you could have any person as a guest at a dinner party, who would it be?" I've never really been able to pick anyone before, but now I think I have the answer.

"Whomsoever wants to be served by my wit and my bad taste, please be my guest. If you don't like being in the Bible belt, then buckle it." Mel Brooks, in a Reuters Television interview.

I'm going to beatify Mel and give him a place as a saint in my official personal religion. He's just that marvy. I think Dick Cavett would be a fab dinner guest, too.

Yet another amazing example of my ability to be within three degrees of separation from Famous Cool People!

I just had a DING! idea and if you don't mind too awfully, I might do this for xmas some year: Buy a bunch of those pillar candles and print out pics of people (like Mel) and make Saint Candles for Real People. Hmmmm. Unless you don't want me stealing your idea. If I do it, I promise you'll get a Mel Candle.

Oh, it's no problem t'all (unless of course you make scads of money with it later on and I feel like a dork)...and a Mel Candle would be just lovely, thanks. :)

Oddly enough, I've actually done that already--made myself some candles with pictures of JRR Tolkien, Philip K Dick, and Jack Kirby on, which I burn in my studio area (Patron Saints are important, you know). I need to make one of Phil Lynott, too...

Great idea, but I think you two should think big and get yer idea into production. Paste 'em all over eBay. People will snap 'em up. Then build the website: LivingSaints.com. Humor sections and candles, prolly T-shirts, too.

Quick, before someone does it first! 0's server can be your initial e-business server...

The only problem with doing something like this is that famous people are kinda picky about who uses their face. Even when their dead, their estates can be quite protective. =(

I love the finishing qouote from the interview:

"Do I lift, do I drive, am I bagging groceries at a very busy supermarket? No. I sit with a little pencil and if I have an idea, I write it down. It's light work. I can do that forever."
