Riders Rules

A friend gave me a card this weekend that had "Roy Rogers Riders Rules" on the back. They are:

1. Be neat and clean
2. Be courteous and polite
3. Always obey your parents
4. Protect the weak and help them
5. Be brave but never take chances
6. Study hard and learn all you can
7. Be kind to animals and take care of them
8. Eat all your food and never waste any
9. Love God and go to Sunday School regularly
10. Always respect our flag and our country

I think I wouldn't make a very good Rider.

Those last two are so great! Number 8 isn't always easy, either...or number 3. Um. Maybe we should make our own list.

Yeah, the only ones I follow with any regularity (or would care to) are 1, 4, and 7. My own list would be easy:

1. Don't act like an asshole too often
2. Don't look like a slob too often
3. Don't eat like a pig too often

I have #2 down, but I can't help that one -- I'm Canadian! =D I handle 4 and 7 easily too. 6 is fine as long as I'm not actually in school, because I just don't seem to be able to study anything when I actually have to. Maybe I can be a cowhand...

I think you could be a fine Rider, actually. It seems to me that, for the most part, ol' Roy's just saying "Don't be a self-important prick, kiddos." The rest of that "go to Sunday School" and "Report any Commies you know" hoo-hah was just for the sponsors.

(Edited because some of us can't spell "know," apparently. Geez.)
