It's always the little things
The #1 ingredient in the Solar-Ray supplements I've been taking? Rice flour. *facepalm* I couldn't remember exactly which type of iron supplements I'd been buying, so I was reading labels at the store this morning. And whaddya know. Huh. Happily, the Merc brand supplements have vegetable bases. I know it's just a small bit, but it adds up to probably a spoonful's worth of grain a day. Possibly enough to enhance carb cravings.
I decided to walk the talk this morning and did all my vegetable shopping at the Farmer's Market. Buying responsibly is expensive. sigh. Between my bagful of vegetables (fennel, kale, zucchini and bok choy) and the Merc purchases (supplements, Iwig milk and cream), I'm down seventy-two smackers. Yeesh.
Last night I hung out with
bestill for the first time in ages. It was relaxing and enjoyable. For me, at least. She was having to get the studio ready for some customers. Poor thing. She gave me a box of books to use for journaling, and one of them was this fantastic kid's book, about seven by nine inches, landscape orientation, called Better Field Events For Girls. It's going to be perfect for a fitness journal.
Thanks to everyone for the fantastic words of encouragement and suggestions on Whipping My Ass Into Shape. Much appreciated!

We're usually there around 9:00 so I can take Ada to swim lessons at 10:00. And yes, it is a tad expensive. Makes me wonder if I'd save joining a CSA for veges.
Or, I need to make more friends with gardens.

These are probably the same people who think Frosted Flakes are "a balanced part of a nutritional breakfast" and need to STFU already.
There are ways to eat healthfully on a budget*. But so far I have not found a way to eat healthfully and locally for cheap.
The politics of how food and obesity are directly linked to social class and income are depressing.
* Although they involve ownership of a chest freezer, which is not always in someone's budget
