Shiver

I finally got around to reading [livejournal.com profile] m_stiefvater's Shiver this weekend. I'm way behind the curve on this one, I know. Despite Saturday's trip to the Nelson and Sunday's hair-henna time at [livejournal.com profile] nottygypsy's, I read the whole thing. Basically, when I was not either 1. in Kansas City or 2. driving, I was reading it.

I loved it a lot.

Color me surprised! I mean, I think it rules. But... I wasn't sure you would. :D

You know me well. I wasn't sure I would, either. I think I would've liked it anyway (I like the sparse prose), but it helps that I'm feeling particularly emo right now.

And even earlier than she expected, I hear!

Feeling emo couldn't possibly hurt. Heh.

I'd like to feel his emo.

Hm, good to know! LibraryThing was giving this away as part of their Early Reviewer program a couple of months ago and it piqued my curiosity, but I didn't request it because just based on the description it seemed like it could go either way on quality. I might have to find a copy now. :)

It was very sweet and simple (in a good way). Nobody was trying to omg Save teh World!!!* and the kissing parts were very nice.

*A very nice change of pace

They SERIOUSLY needed more of this sort of thing in the sequel. *sadface*

For real. I mean Look. At. Those. Deltoids.

Nggggg.

YES. I've been stealing books off my teenager's bookshelf a lot this summer. I bought her Shiver for Xmas and finally read it myself. The more intimate focus of the story -- just these people, just this town -- was a relief.

I'm reading the next one now Linger is available already. I'm loving it too.

just these people, just this town

I know, right? Not everybody needs to save the whole of humanity.

Yay!

I also have a great fondness for Minnesota and winter in the north. :)

Oooh! I'm glad you liked it! I'm waiting for Linger to come in the mail ('cause I really need another book right now after lugging a suitcase half-full home from ReaderCon). :)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-07-13 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
More books! More books! =D

[identity profile] auroraceleste.livejournal.com 2010-07-14 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
In fact, I just got called by the bookstore to say my copy is in! Yay Linger!

You like me. You really like me!

emo boys is my genre.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-07-14 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I do like you! Very much!

Even if I didn't like your book, I'd still like you. You're pretty awesome.

[identity profile] m-stiefvater.livejournal.com 2010-07-14 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I agree. *preens*

Also, that's the way it should be. (not the awesomeness. But the identity of person divorced from book thing)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2010-07-14 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely. For instance: There's this [livejournal.com profile] tessagratton chick who is pretty cool, but wow her stories are effed-up. And the [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick guy with a novel coming out in September? His writing is great, but man what a dork.

I love you guys! Kiss kiss!
