Coffee at home tastes better than coffee at the office

My housecleaning day has been delayed a bit. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick didn't get home from his Thursday night escapades until oh, let's just say most of us would consider it morning. He claimed that I could still clean house as long as I didn't vacuum, but this is the person who wakes up when I open the back door or turn on the kitchen sink too quickly. So...yeah. I think I'll lock myself up in the sewing room instead and work on some bloomers. [livejournal.com profile] miischelle, yours are first in line!

I sent an email to my mother this morning that said:

I just wanted to see if we were still on for visiting people on day trips. If so, and if we plan to eat at their house, please make sure they understand my dietary issues. It's not worth it for me to eat off-plan (I get so sick when I do!) and I don't want to put anyone in the uncomfortable position of being told "Oh, that's okay, I'll just fast until I get back to Indianapolis!" That's no fun for anybody...It all sounds so complicated until I explain that a steak and a side salad (sans cheese and croutons) with oil and vinegar dressing is perfect.

*sigh*

Mommy will have no problem cooking for me. However, we'd be visiting her friends in southern Indiana (which might as well be the Batter-Fried South) and my carbaholic uncle. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and order a few Tanka Bars to take along as a food-of-last-resort. Hey, wait! I just checked their store locator and Lawrence Nutrition Center now carries them. I know what errand I'm running today!

Whole9 releases their Whole30 Success Guide on Sunday. I ordered mine (downloadable PDF) today. These guys more than deserve my $39 for helping me discover and build an eating style that works so well for my body. Even if there's not one penny's-worth of new info in the e-book it's 100% worth it. I'm pleased to have a way to give them a financial thank-you. Thank you, Whole9!

If you've been thinking about (or struggling with) doing your own Whole30, please consider pony-ing up the cash for your copy of the Success Guide. I can't imagine that it wouldn't help get you on track.

oh yah, eating with others sure can get loaded with people's issues really quickly.
So much of food is grain-based when it comes to hospitality here!
I applaud the people who just set the fixins for sammies or barbeque out and let the guests choose what goes on the plate. I can assemble a meat-topped salad without a fuss and no one is the wiser. :)

Glad you found the bars at LNC.. sounds like I need a trip there and a desk stash.

It's frustating when people take offense because I won't eat their food that I know will make me feel bad. I'm not judging them. I just want to feel good!

YES. THIS.

Even beverages. I don't know how often it is that they only bevvies offered at homes or office lunches are sodas.
I have to take my own cans of fizzy water to my in-laws because they don't even keep a pitcher in the fridge and don't understand that I don't like ice in tap water.

Going out to eat with friends recently has been an eye opener on just how many grains are included with things. It is rare to find a dish that doesn't need to be modified, and a lot where modifying just isn't worth it.

And our family Thanksgiving? The only thing that I can eat on the menu is turkey. And I'm sure the inevitable raw vege tray from Costco that someone with bring.

Needless to say, I'm bringing my own food to Thanksgiving.

At least most bar & grille type places will put a burger on a salad for you. Just sometimes the lettuce is iceberg but oh well!

Good luck with Thanksgiving!

You seem awesome, aren't full of yourself, and have interesting things to say about diet. I hope you don't mind me adding. :)

Wow, thank you! I don't mind at all! Add away.
