How Fetish would help make the bed

Last night I got more than four hours of consecutive sleep for the first time since I decided to have Fetish euthanized. I went to bed at 10:00, got up once to use the bathroom, and slept until 7:30 this morning. What a difference! I feel so much better. Not having to get up to go to work this morning was doubly nice. I needed that sleep. The hives are finally gone, too.

Yesterday and today would have been really good days to have her (the young, healthy her) again. She would have been so thrilled at all the lazy lap time--and would've been an excellent external heat source. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick and I spent time before bed remembering her.

I forgot to mention in the eulogy how she helped make the bed. She loved how smooth and slick the bed was once I got the fitted sheet on. She'd race around, looking like a funny car, with her front legs splayed out in front of her and her back legs powering her around the bed, racing back and forth as the top sheet floated down. When I'd lift the top sheet again to snap it in place, she'd freeze and watch it fly up in the air, then tear around the bed as it settled into place--thus necessitating the re-lift and re-settle of the sheet. We would repeat this process several times until the sheet was good enough and not too uneven across the bed. I'd skitter my hand across the top of the sheet and she would follow to bat at it, a kitty lump under the sheet. Occasionally, I would lift the sheet to look at her during this and she would stop, hunkered down in predator mode, and look at me, pupils hugely dilated and ears as forward as possible. When she got tired or bored, she'd pick a spot on the bed and settle down. I'd finish making the bed, comforter and all, while she hid, confident in her invisibility. After a while, she'd slip out from between the sheets and jump to the floor, leaving a little mole-hill trail in the bedclothes.
