Like water for chocolate

This Revlon mineral powder foundation and translucent powder that I bought a few weeks ago makes me look chalky. I think my skin is too...er...old for this stuff. If someone with younger, dewier skin would like to give it a try, let me know. You gotta be at least as pale as me, though. This shit is fair. If nobody else wants it, I'll see if Walgreen's will do a return with no receipt. [livejournal.com profile] shrijani, or [livejournal.com profile] tessagratton it might work for you. Lemme know.

The new Lady Gaga stuff I've heard off the new album is very disappointing. I need a new lover in my CD player, people. Hook me up. No hippie crap or introspective acoustic guitars, please.

I wanna do some dancing. Club dancing, partner dancing, don't care. Wanna dance. To good music. On a decent dance floor. I am just that picky, yes.

Instead, I'm probably going to spend the evening the sewing room, which is recovering from a purge. Bleh. Not an adequate compromise. Not even close.

Check out the Cat Empire. I am on a tiny mobile device or I would linky you, but about half of their stuff is delicious and delightfully danceable.

The other half is only so-so, though. Try "Two Shoes,", "1-4-5", and "Hello Hello" for starters.

Much love,
Rowan

I should be up purging my room, but I'm sitting quietly trying not to throw my alignment out of whack.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 01:52 am (UTC)(link)

i'm answering to your comment, because first, luv, sympathy.

But to CR, did you check out my funk/soul post?

I miss dancing too.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Did I ever give you my pressed mineral foundation that's very fair?
Oh, and I *think* I've done returns to WG without a receipt, I just had to show my ID and sign the refund ticket.

Thank you! I'll search for them on Monday when I have a faster connection. Woot woot!

I'm sitting quietly trying not to throw my alignment out of whack

Good for you. Back problems are teh suxxor.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
No, I didn't get a pressed foundation from you...if you find it, I'll be thrilled to give it a try.

I think Walgreen's does returns with no receipt, too. I just always feel so guilty about that. Silly, I know.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I saw it, but forgive me, I just can't get into that style of music. *sigh*

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
No forgiveness needed.. it's my "back in the day" soul freak showing.

For future ref: Is there any soul/funk music that moves you?

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'll look for it then.
It was too fair for me, but not as chalky as others.
If it doesn't work, no worries, I got a refund but they didn't want it back.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Prince. =D

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
With the Revlon stuff, I get that old-lady chalky look on my cheeks, ya know? Not attractive.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 02:41 am (UTC)(link)

euww, I do.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
haha, .. not funk at all, but oh yes, soul pop!
J'adore Prince!

No James Brown, really? :incredulous:

:desperately trying to find common ground:
Tina Turner? The Ohio Players? (she's a brick . houuuuse..)
:pout:

I am too white for James Brown. I love Tina for what she stands for, but, alas, no, the music just doesn't move me.

It's okay! Diversity is what makes things fun and interesting. =D

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
It's interesting. I don't see the age when I look in the mirror, but I definitely see it in the new 365 project (http://www.flickr.com/photos/chernobylred/sets/72157625845549807/with/5496832509/)! I bet part of that is the weight loss. Can't say that's a real great motivator...

Ack. I know what you mean, I see it in my pix also

But luvvie, I don't see it in person.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Good! LOL!

I really gotta find a point-and-shoot that I'm happy with. This new one is just not doin' it for me.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
Aye, true so.

That got me to wondering... why do I not see myself as "too white"? What makes that difference between us?

but then,.. Mum and I danced around in the late 60s to Wilson Pickett;
ETA... at that time, we lived in Washington DC.. could be a factor, along with the military thing, and Mum, being Brit, not knowing the difference *because* we were military (the original American rainbow culture), automatically a 'rainbow child'; and yah, I'm a decade older, so Motown was HOT in my heyday.

.

Now I understand. I'll know to keep that in mind with my further recs.. The Supremes is definitely out for you :D

When digital cameras first came out, I noticed a distinct difference in portrait photography. 35mm is much different in the look of the face.
Digital, to me, gives a different look to the same face.

You and I could do a comparison shoot between yours and mine.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I loved my old camera. It had some sort of smoothing effect that the Fuji doesn't have. This new one does okay on the one out of ten photos that aren't blurry. But I'm not willing to take ten shots for every one that comes out in focus.

[identity profile] nottygypsy.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's not terrible, my neck and shoulders killing me from being back at a computer 8 hrs in a terrible chair and at a conference table. He got me aligned (man I needed it) but the muscles are still so sore. Heating pad and a few cocktails are my friends.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 04:57 am (UTC)(link)

eeee, yuk.

I've never had a blur issue with my Canon, even on Auto, unless I moved it, or tried to take a close-up wihout macro setting. Boo. Can you take it back on some sort of return policy?

[identity profile] shrijani.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I, too, have been disappointed by what I have heard of Gaga's new album, and I have to say, it makes me sad.

I am in search of good dance music. I may have to see if I can record some myself, in the likely absence.

I will try that foundation if Tess doesn't want it, or if Walgreen's won't take it back, or both. I'm curious.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm betting Tess won't want the make-up, so next time I see you, I'll hand it over.

Looking forward to hearing what you find in your music search.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-03-05 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Chris got it on eBay, so...no. We're going to pour over the manual this weekend to see if we need to adjust a setting.

Duh! I recently turned to Robyn when I started to feel a dance pop gap in my soul. Robyn is that Swedish pop star with the trademark bleach blond asymmetrical wedge hair cut. She has a lot of talent, and really one of the loveliest pop voices I have ever heard. Plus, she is Swedish, which seems to confer a genius for pop music.

A few years ago, she got away from the major label that was squashing her creativity, and formed her own label. Her two most recent albums (Robyn, Body Talk) are, in my estimation, dance pop masterworks. Lots of great transcendent electronic noises, good beats, and creative lyrics.

Some of my favorite songs from Body Talk:

"Indestructible"
"Hang With Me"
"We Dance to the Beat"
"Get Myself Together"
"Stars 4-Ever"
"Dancehall Queen"

From Robyn:

"Crash and Burn Girl" (I **LOVE** this song. LOVE it.)
"Bum Like You"
"Who's That Girl?"
"Handle Me"
"Any Time You Like" (Slow, really beautiful, reminds me a little bit of "And Dream of Sheep" by Kate Bush.)

Oooh. Sounds promising! I gotta stop by Love Garden today. Maybe I'll see if they have either of these two albums. Thank you!

[identity profile] yanbaoqin.livejournal.com 2011-03-07 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I kinda want to try it now to scare the crap out of everyone I know.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-03-07 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You'd look so pretty! =D

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2011-03-07 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Have I thrown any D'Angelo to you yet? If not, it'll be thrown tonight. I think he'll serve to get you through the musical dry spell and give you something to which you'll be able to shake your exquisite groove thang.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2011-03-08 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you sent me some stuff. It's just not my bag. He is a fine-looking man, though.
