Pull yourself together, girl

I absolutely must pull it together today.

Yesterday was a disaster. I woke up with a double-dose of pain. The ache in my hip/leg had been joined by some girly cramping. Awesome. I knew I didn't have the option of staying home, so I took some muscle relaxant that may or may not have been given to me under the table and limped my way up the hill.

Around ten-thirty, I was thinking what the fuck is going on with the complete lack of effectiveness of these things and then I realized I'd been drinking a lot more water than usual. Hmm. Dry mouth? Then around eleven-thirty I realized that my brain was slowing down. It was fascinating. I could track how my responses to things (email queries, processing application materials) got slower and slower and...slower. Until finally, I wasn't capable of doing anything at all that required an attention to detail (you know, like filing materials in the correct folder). When I realized that I was having email discussions that involved my typing phrases like I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT and MY BRAIN SEEMS TO HAVE SHUT DOWN SO SORRY, and my eyes could no longer focus on the computer screen, I packed it up and went home. Where I slept for about an hour and a half. And then sat on the couch for the rest of the day in a grumpy stupor. As far as I could tell, I received no benefit from the drug itself, but got to experience all the side effects. Color me unsurprised.

No more of that stuff, let me tell you.

This means I'm now half a day behind--well, slightly more than half, since I'm only in the office until 4:00 for the next few weeks--but thankfully, all my faculties seem to have returned. I'm still kind of grumpy, but that's a product of many many things. Specifically, the many many things that are cluttering the living room, and the disastrous state of the kitchen and downstairs bathroom. Ugh.

I need to hire a cleaner to get the house in shape before our out-of-town guests arrive next week. What with the no-bending-over thing, I think that scrubbing floors and showers is not in my best interest. There goes another $100 that could've gone to the boots. Harumph.

Grumpy. Did I mention? Now is the time where, were I in a movie, somebody would tell me to Channel That Anger and then would begin a magical musical montage. I wonder what song would play.

The Return of Captain Invincible, in addition to the alcohol song (sung by Christopher Lee), has a song consisting only of the word "bullshit".

My bad attitude, causes me nothin' but trouble,
When I order a drink, I gotta order a double.
One for me, one for you-know-who..
My bad attitude.

Ugh. At least the Xmas clutter in the living room will be gone by the time you're home....

I recently wrote a letter ending my relationship with this month. Our home has little Yuletide sparkle and what there is does so in spite of dust.

May the New Year bring us (and a few others I know who are facing some scary medical shit about now) a whole lot of feeling better!!
