May 8 was my 1 year LJ anniversary! I've been on here for a year! Wow.

Although this has been posted on several other LJs, I want to help spread the word:
Vermont Street BBQ has a new location! Best BBQ in town, no doubt. Eat there soon, eat there often, folks.

I am very sad that I missed Sellout, but I had a super time with my parents and nana. Lots of fun hanging out and then crafty stuff with Mommy and Nana.

While shopping for crafty stuff, I found some stunning fabric for my new dance costume for Fest (Sultan's Treasure Weekend is September 18-19--mark your calendars). Getting antsy about being in good shape for that. I don't mind carrying a little extra around my middle, but I know that parade is gonna kick my ass if I'm not in better cardiovascular shape by then. Yikes! Nothing motivates like fear.

In other news, we bought a fucking tractor. A tractor. I don't care if [livejournal.com profile] 0verdrive claims it's a riding lawnmower. The thing has optional attachments for chrissake. Let me tell you, [livejournal.com profile] 0verdrive is sooooooo lucky that my parents were home when he came home with the news. I don't go into full Screaming Harpy mode in front of the folks. Like I've said before, there are some things your parents shouldn't see. But it took a lot to laugh this one off, folks. I own. A tractor. Even the sky weeps for me today.

Beautiful. I can imagine the incredulity that changes into a grimace that goes along with this last paragraph. Boys and their toys do tend to stretch the limits of one's patience or sanity at times. At least with his tractor, he should be eager to take care of the lawn now instead of putting it off a few days each time as happens with the men in my family.

Tracktor much more useful then enough magic cards that we had to inventory them for insurance

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
Thankfully, neither of us are collectors.

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't realize your yard was big enough for a tractor, urm, riding lawnmower. I think he needs to ride his tractor down to my house to mow to really get his money's worth.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
I think he needs to start a mowing service to get his money's worth.

[identity profile] 0verdrive.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, boo-hoo!

Let's all pity chernobylred -- she has a boy that has decided to care for their lawn, and to do it right. Truly, she is the saddest creature on the planet.

Pppthhh! :P

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/kai_/ 2004-05-10 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
I like tractors. They're cool.

I guess I'm one girl that doesn't get all girly-girl about big machines.

However, I suppose I'd rather have my boy buy a tractor than have to buy one myself.

If I /had/ a boy.

May I come admire your tractor sometime?

A little more seriously...

[identity profile] 0verdrive.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 10:37 am (UTC)(link)
I got the riding lawnmower (not a tractor!) because I got tired of having our lilac bushes mowed over by everyone we've hired. I decided that if I wanted it done right, I'd have to do it myself.

And since I'm doing it myself, I wanted options (such as:)

1. Riding mowers are better built than push-mowers, and will last longer
2. I can do the same amount of work in 1/4 of the time
3. I can do the following with the riding lawn-mower:
A. Mow/Mulch/Bag -- everything a normal mower can do
B. Level the yard
C. Dethatch the yard
D. Aerate the soil
E. Plow snow and ice off our driveway and sidewalks in the winter

This makes almost all my boy-chores infinitely easier! Well worth it, I say!

[identity profile] 0verdrive.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
It might also be noted that chernobylred's parents were actually on my side, btw... ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
That's because they didn't have to pay for it.

[identity profile] 0verdrive.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Don't think my yard's big enough, huh? Try mowing it!

I admit: it's not like we live in the country and I have to mow the back 40 -- but it's still a large yard.

Also, scraping a corner-yard sidewalk every time it sleets is a real pain. I'm looking forward to the snow-plow attachment! ;)

[identity profile] 0verdrive.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
I can imagine the incredulity that changes into a grimace

Boy, you got that right!
(Really, she's using this more as an opportunity to play the woe-to-me game more than anything -- but she sure makes the most of it, doesn't she? ;) )

And yes, I think it will make me more likely to keep up with the outdoor chores...

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'd only worry if your fella started calling you "Maw." Since I doubt that "Maw, I got ta go mow the back forty" will never come from his lips, just consider it a very small customizable vehicle.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
Since I doubt that "Maw, I got ta go mow the back forty"

Oh, but now he most certainly will. LOL!

I'm actually very interested in the customizing aspects, though. I'm thinking flames and som Von Dutch pinstriping...

[identity profile] bellanorth.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
At least it should be a breeze now, with this riding tractor and all its attachments, right? Or will this be a convenience that might create just as much work, but look better doing it?

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
That, miss, would redefine "hip." Or, perhaps, "hep." Flames, pinstriping, devil girls on the sides... why not? It's a motorized vehicle, so it deserves nothing less.

[identity profile] 0verdrive.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
I think your second guess is probably more accurate.

The actual mow-time will decrease drastically. However, I'll end up spending as much time grooming the lawn now as I would have spent mowing it before.

But even if I don't save any time, it'll certainly look nicer...

[identity profile] 0verdrive.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
That's actually something of an overstatement, too. I'm not going to turn into a yard-nazi, who yells at everyone to stay off his lawn. Nor will I be using this as a resume-builder for getting a job manicuring golf-courses.

But I wouldn't mind having fewer weeds and bare spots...

[identity profile] bellanorth.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
It's all about looking good, eh? Enjoy your new toy. Or did you already demo it yesterday for the family?

[identity profile] 0verdrive.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I haven't gotten to use it yet! It'll get delivered tomorrow morning. ;)

Weather.com doesn't mention rain for tomorrow, so maybe I'll get to give it a shot -- my lawn is looking pretty sorry after my brother got ahold of it...

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, when we realized that our Magic collection was worth so much more than we paid for it, and we'd have to buy special insurance to insure it, and I didn't like the kind of people who'd actually play with me... well, bye-bye Magic cards, hello piles of cash.

Chris

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, a "snow-plow attachment"! No, you cannot claim it is a mere riding lawnmower. On the other hand, cooool! You can store it in our garage. Safe from the elements. Only rental fee is letting me use it!

Note to [livejournal.com profile] chernobylred: I did not talk him into this. In fact, I asked, "What do you suppose your girl will think about this?" I did, however, try to talk him into the rolling tool chest >g<

Chris

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, yeah, and a sun-canopy made from Middle Eastern weavings, with all that dangly stuff you see hanging from elephant sedan-chairs. Oh, and a supercharger! And tall gearing so it can go faster! And nitrous, gotta have NOS!

Chris

[identity profile] sdemory.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Nitrous on a lawn tractor would definitely redefine "hip." That'd make mowing the lawn a whole hell of a lot more fun, I expect.

[identity profile] 0verdrive.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you mean, I can't claim that it's a riding lawn mower? You saw it! It's a riding lawn mower!!! (It just does other things too!)

And I already told chernobylred that you weren't a bad influence in this case. I even told her that you looked a little concerned that I might be getting myself into trouble.

Clearly, there's no trouble here! ;)

[identity profile] 0verdrive.livejournal.com 2004-05-10 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Laugh. It does have a cup-holder... ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-05-11 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
Dear god, someone hose him down.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2004-05-11 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
and there are no penalties for drinking and driving it around your yard!

[identity profile] 0verdrive.livejournal.com 2004-05-12 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
Well... no legal penalties... If I cut my hand off, I'd call that a penalty for drinking and mowing...

Fortunately, it has an automatic shut-off switch -- if I get out of my seat, the mower shuts down! (Pretty cool, I thought...)

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-05-12 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah, then, it's a mower. And a tiller. And a plow. And... um, a mower that is... uh, flexible. Not a tractor, which is, uh, less flexible or something >g<

Chris

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-05-12 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, yeah, a firehose attachment! Powered by a 454 Chevy big-block! on nitrous!

Chris
