Know it
This video has been making the rounds for a while, now. I think maybe I've even posted it. But I want to make a point about it that I don't think I mentioned before. On her LJ,
Hardly anybody on this planet enjoys being humiliated*, so I have to ask why he was willing to be filmed. I doubt that he knew the video would go viral, and it's unlikely he would make a buck on it. My opinion as to why he allowed his failures to be shown? It's because he knew he would eventually succeed. He knew it. It was important--crucial--to show those painful, early attempts because otherwise, how would he show his amazing progress? He had faith in his trainers, and he had faith in himself. Why did he allow himself to be filmed while failing? Because he knew--he knew--that eventually he would be filmed while succeeding.
Attitude is so important. Not just attitude, but knowledge. Not belief. Knowledge. So I'm going to try something out, here. I'm going to make a statement. I know that in six months, I will be healthier than I am right now. I know it. I am healthier than I was in October of last year. I shall be healthier in September than I am right now.
I know it. I am convinced.
In unrelated news, I put up a Tumblr collection this week. Tuesday, March 12: Gas Masks, part 2. Part 1 is here if you missed it in 2011.
* I am not counting that sort of humiliation, you pervs.

Credendo vides - By believing, one sees.
It brings to mind one of my favorite "children's" books, The Voyage of the Basset (http://becksl.blogspot.com/2011/05/credendo-vides-by-believing-one-sees.html).
Love, love love it.
I digress.
His conquering of chronic pain and the doctors' sentence "you will never walk unassisted" is breath-taking. I'd be so interested in more about his mental process through this journey. I'm sure that getting into the mindset of "I am getting better every day" is far more inspiring than "I'm a mess." I plan to start incorporating that into my own headspace, too.

Important stuff!
And, yeah, the "I'm a mess" attitude guarantees certain outcomes. None very good ;-)
When I decided to start writing differently, it's because I could no longer live with the way my work-life was consuming all my writing time. Years were swooshing past without my completing my next novel. I had lots of great reasons for why I had to put work over writing, but not only does giving up one's passions for work lead to unhappiness, but my kind of work actually values publishing and devalues those who teach rather than publish. And service (which consumes ever-more of my time) is always temporal, easily forgotten. So I began searching for ways to reach my vision of a novel per year (or similar volume of short work). This new method, writing each day before doing other work, crystallized that vision, and now I know I can do it - this makes all the difference. And it's happening, just like I knew it would. Same's true for when I began to believe I could not only overcome the shoulder injury but also get to be the strongest in my life... and it came to be!
Best wishes to us all!
Re: Important stuff!
Side note: it amuses me to read/hear that I'm an inspiration at this point in my life. I'm not sure when I graduated from merely serving as a warning to others.
Re: Important stuff!
I think that's what we call "getting old" - knowing we can change, and that we must, but not doing it.

Also, you will definitely be healthier in six months. It's a long road, but you will get there.

...except was spitting in it. Twice, the dominant character demanded the sub open his mouth and then he spat into it. Which was gag-inducing. (I think I'm about to gag just typing it out.) That fic would be, like, my favorite one-shot ever if it weren't for the goddamn spitting.
Anyhoo, I'm off topic, what a shocker.
