Overland Park/Olathe/Lenexa area museums

Does anyone have museum recommendations for the areas of OP/Olathe/Lenexa? I'd like to take my parents to a museum of some sort (art, cultural, historical, I'm not picky) while they're here this week, but we don't have time to drive all the way into KCMO for the big, well-known museums there.

Suggestions appreciated.

You can see the 1950's all electric house (part of JOCO museum) in Lenexa, or the Nerman Contemporary at JCCC. They have limited gallery space but there is an awesome soundsuit by a KCAI alum. Additional art is kind of scattered around campus, so I'd stop to see the contemporary Indian art on the second floor of Regnier if you decide to go.

There is also the Spencer here in town or the Watkins downtown if history is more their flavor.

I was thinking about that 50s house museum, but I didn't know what museum it was. Thank you!

I plan to hit the Lawrence museums on Thursday.

the 50's house is on Lackman and Shawnee Mission Parkway (ish) so it is really easy access from 435.

If your parents are walking-around types, and the weather is nice, the Overland Park Arboretum can be really nice. Other than that, all I've got is Boy Scout outings in my bag of tricks. I'll be looking forward to what turns up here...

Ooh! That looks nice. Maybe I'll give them a choice (if the weather's nice) of indoor or outdoor. Thank you!

The Legler Barn museum is here in Lenexa. I haven't made it there yet, but I've heard nice things. It's also attached to a lovely park with some walking possibilities in case leg stretching is needed.

And I'm thinking I'd like to check out the all electric house, so thanks for posting this! I learned new things!

Awesome! Thanks.

Mahaffie is nice enough, but pretty small. I don't think I'm going to be able to beat that 50s future house with anything, though.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the 50s house. I hope they want to go!

I want to go to 50s house! I didn't know it existed!
