We're more belligerent, more stubborn and more idiotic than you could ever imagine

The word "homosapien" is not in the dictionary of my version of MS Word.

My night sleep quality was radically improved by going from 64oz of water per day to approximately 50oz. I don't feel thirsty. My skin looks fine. Fuck that noise of a mandatory eight 8oz glasses of water a day. Seriously. Fuck. It.

I have begun experimentation with introducing cooked-and-cooled white potatoes after reading some articles on the benefits of Resistant Starch. I haven't noticed many changes yet, but how did I forget the deliciousness of plain white potatoes? Unless I notice some truly horrible side-effects, Imma keep eating these things because damn.

[livejournal.com profile] mckitterick and I finally got around to renting The World's End this week. I didn't like it as much as Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick liked it better. I knew the basic premise of the movie and was prepared for the end, but I think the critics who complained about the end were right. The fact that Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's characters didn't end up together soured it for me. I understand the authorial/storytelling reason for doing so, but that doesn't mean I liked it.

Seems like the psoas muscles are just about everyone's nemesis. Here's a good article on strengthening and lengthening them.

Because I have a need to be honest and held accountable--I want to be someone who walks their talk--I gotta tell you guys my eating habits since returning from 221B Con have been pretty shitty. It's a rare day that I eat enough. I'm having a rough time of it, psychologically. I know, I know, I know that undereating is bad for me (elevated cortisol, lack of nutrients to build muscle, etc.), but goddamn it's hard for me to eat sometimes. Intellectually, I know I'm doing myself good by eating that extra bowl of food. But my emotions scream "Oh my god, you're going to get even fatter! What are you doing?" I was doing okay (well, better) until the spotty and sparse eating while I was in Georgia. And now I'm back to square one. Those cold potatoes are helping, though. Especially when they're dressed with a little of my home-made mayo and a dash of Penzey's Sandwich Sprinkle or Ruth Ann's Muskego Ave Seasoning. NOM.

Honestly, when people go paleo and then bash the taste of white potatoes or (good) bread? I don't believe them.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-04-17 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
When [livejournal.com profile] mckitterick goes out to eat, he'll sometimes bring home the uneaten bread from his entree, which we then warm up and shred for the squirrels. It smells so good.

And yeah, I've lost my taste for some things (I don't think SweeTarts would taste very good anymore), but I would love to occasionally dive face-first into a (well-made) pizza. Or tiramisu. Or chocolate chip cookies with milk. BECAUSE THAT SHIT IS DELICIOUS.

You were having a hard time with eating enough before you left too, so I understand it's a struggle. I'm glad the potatoes are helping. And they sound delicious. I'm gonna go back to sleep before I shake the Brit and scream "MAKE ME POTATOES DAMMIT."

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-04-17 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
POTATOES!!!!!!

I bought a bag of them at Natural Grocer that had been marked down to $2 because they were sprouting. I cleaned them, wrapped them in foil, and baked them all at the same time. Now I have a drawer-full (seriously, it was like twenty small potatoes) of cold potatoes just waiting to GET IN MAH BELLY.

Mmm.. spuds just oozing with butter or mayo!

Oooh, good article.

(Isn't "Homo sapiens" two words?)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-04-17 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
OH YOU ARE CORRECT.

I was using it when referencing the title of a song (The Buzzcock's Pete Shelley's "Homosapien") and didn't even think about that!

I've gotten some seriously really, really tasty purple potatoes at Natural Grocers. They are a fabulous texture and kind of buttery? They seem to go on discount pretty easily (here at least) I'm guessing because people are weirded out by the purple. But holy cow, try them if they will work as a "white" potato.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-04-17 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I've tried those! They were wonderful. And also JAPANESE SWEET POTATOES. I love those things. Yes. YES.

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2014-04-17 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you mean homo sapiens? 'Cause that's two words.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-04-17 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! As [livejournal.com profile] redheadfae pointed out, above. I was using the word as it appears in a song title and didn't even think about how that wasn't how the word is actually spelled!

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2014-04-17 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Doh! Missed that.

I didn't even know there is a song. Now I'll have to look it up.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-04-17 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a song about gay sex, which is is probably the only reason I know it. Here's a fabulous mashup of it, which is, IMO, better than the original song itself.

[identity profile] shanmonster.livejournal.com 2014-04-17 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That's catchy!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-04-17 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy you liked it!

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2014-04-18 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
I was under the impression that the 8x8oz water thing was busted, tbh. I mean, damn, that's a LOT of water.

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2014-04-18 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I seem to do okay on 6-7 cups of water, especially with the whole sleep-through-the-night thing. :) Glad some recalibrations are working for you.

[identity profile] kazoogrrl.livejournal.com 2014-04-18 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm definitely losing my taste for some things, especially sweets. But fried potato products? Yes. Fresh baked goods? Yes. Really good ice cream? Yes. Pizza from the local brick oven place? Yum!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-04-18 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I posted about it a while ago, too. I was just amazed at how much better I felt not drinking that much!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-04-18 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
ME, TOO!

[identity profile] kazoogrrl.livejournal.com 2014-04-18 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Tiny little potatoes prepared on a grill. Noms!

[identity profile] alryssa.livejournal.com 2014-04-19 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
I swear, I'd probably feel like a walking water bag.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2014-04-21 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
I drink more than that, actually - and if I don't, I get dehydration symptoms. So I bet the people who came up with that rule just couldn't get outside their POV.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2014-04-21 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
I agree that the movie would have been better with that ending.

I know you have trouble telling yourself to eat when you don't feel hungry, but not eating probably makes you not hungry, and not being hungry....

Sucks.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-04-21 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
the people who came up with that rule just couldn't get outside their POV.

WHAT A SHOCKING NOTION. Man, that never happens. Especially when it comes to diet/nutrition research!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2014-04-21 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Psst, though, I'll tell you a secret. When you have an eating disorder? Feeling hungry sometimes feels really good. And yeah, that's a huge problem, too.
