It's not in my nature

I tried not to respond to her last comment. I tried. GOD DID I TRY. I tried for (checks time stamp) fifteen minutes. But no. From this article on The Toast.

ETA: My last little comment, which I expected to go unnoticed because it's at the bottom of a long comment thread already has ten thumbs-up votes, y'all.

I tried to be the bigger person. I really did. But (https://twitter.com/CleverManka/status/608331236961054720).

That is a person who is not willing to have a rational conversation about their beliefs.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-16 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
NOPE.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2015-09-16 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I sympathize with her opinion, BUT. Geez, be a leeeetle bit adult, please.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-16 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That's what I found the most funny/sad about the whole thing. It's like girl I am on your side here, but you're being an asshole and I refuse to stand next to you.

WORD

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-16 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
In her defense, I was an angry ex-Xtian in my 20s, too.

[identity profile] splix.livejournal.com 2015-09-16 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
You were more diplomatic than I would have been, I think.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-16 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's The Toast. The commentariat is amazing. We're all pretty reasonable, if snarky. I think she's probably new. I didn't recognize her username, anyway. She'll learn. Or she'll be miserable. Or she'll be the one that eventually nobody interacts with.

[identity profile] splix.livejournal.com 2015-09-16 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't argue on the internet anymore, and people like her are why. And it's not because I disagree with her principles - I don't. Gah.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-17 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly! Like I mentioned to someone in an email about this, In my head I was all "Girl when it comes down to the base of it, I am on your side here but you are being such an asshole there is no way I can stand next to you."

[identity profile] splix.livejournal.com 2015-09-16 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
:D

[identity profile] saffronhare.livejournal.com 2015-09-16 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)

Wow. Just...wow. She is so devoted to her outrage.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-17 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
Wow that is the BEST description of that I can imagine. PERFECT YES

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2015-09-16 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow. I was an angry Pagan at one time, too, but I had, at least, the sense to realize that any woman who identified as feminist was probably on my side. And maybe, just maybe, I might owe her a Thank You for fighting for the shit I was crying about being taken away.

There's no rational discourse with her. She hates her own FATHER for his faith, let alone another feminist.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-17 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking she probably has Some Issues upon which it doesn't do for us to dwell.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2015-09-17 10:54 am (UTC)(link)
Probably so. And I'm sure she thinks she's being witty as well, but she's just got it all wrong. Catholics don't claim that quiverful nonsense.

[identity profile] curieuse.livejournal.com 2015-09-16 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Nikki handled it well, too.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-09-17 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone did! Well, except crawkill herself. And I mean, like I said to some other people above and in emails, I get her. I really do. I was an angry ex-xtian, once upon a time. I understand that rage and sense of betrayal. But honey no.

I did have to laugh at her statement: I think I may have interpreted the tone of CleverManka's first post as somewhat snarkier than she meant it

No, sweetie, no you really didn't.

*tuts* Not only is she a self-righteous twit, she's also an igornat self-rigtheous twit for conflating Evangelicals and Catholics. I'm glad you swiped her one. She had it coming and some.

[identity profile] gansje.livejournal.com 2015-09-17 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
oh GAWD, people like this were part of the reason for the backlash against feminism in the first place. Just... GAH!

You are right, and deserved all of the thumbs-ups. Cheezus.

[identity profile] 1-rhiannon-1.livejournal.com 2015-09-17 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I don't think I'd have been able to not respond either. That last one was totally uncalled for on her part!

Oof. Ex-Catholic here. I'm not gonna pass up Steve Colbert as my dad just because he has some weird fondness for hokey religions and ancient weapons. One thing I know from my extensive association with said hokey religion is that there are many kinds of Catholics. It's too bad that the ones who aren't misogynistic assholes are still kinda sorta supporting those who are. But, you know, a lot of them have a touching faith that they can change things. I lost that faith too. Maybe Stephen Colbert didn't. Your comments rock as usual!

And why did it take this long for me to remember that my actual father's name was Stephen too . . . and he was a Catholic . . . now I don't know how to feel. Sigh.

Sounds like old school Rennies, doesn't it?

[identity profile] pointoforigin.livejournal.com 2015-09-18 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
It does! And now you've made me think of Colbert in a hauberk and kilt . . .

[identity profile] aprilstarchild.livejournal.com 2015-11-08 11:49 am (UTC)(link)
If Catholicism is ever going to change, it will be because of people like Stephen Colbert. I know several super-liberal Catholics and they are wonderful people.

Also ugggggh Catholics aren't quiverful nutjobs. Catholics are allowed to prevent pregnancy via the rhythm/sympto-thermal/natural family planning method, which works if you're on a regular cycle and disciplined at it--and 90-something percent of Catholics just use regular birth control anyway. Whereas quiverful nutjobs think it's a woman's duty to pop out as many babies as possible, to the point of not even doing extended breast-feeding.

ANYWAY. Preaching choir etc.
