ParksandHam

So much going on this weekend. I am quite relieved a friend's band canceled their gig tonight. I'd have had three events in three days and just no thank you.

Remember how I mentioned how much King George's song(s) reminded me of King Herod's Song in JC Superstar? [livejournal.com profile] athenaartemis sent me a clip from Hamilton's casting call in an email:

Seeking:
Male, ages 30-49, Caucasian
King George: the King of England, entitled, pouty nihilist. Sees the American Colonies as a deluded former lover, who will come crawling back. Rufus Wainwright meets King Herod in JCS; British accent, tenor.

Aw yeah.

Our Hamilton tickets arrived in the mail yesterday, btw. If you've got nothing going on today, check out the #ParksandHam tag on Twitter.

For the first time in a long time I am not doing anything Halloween-ish for Halloween. There's just too much going on for me right now, mentally, emotionally, and physically and I am just so glad I'm not dressing up or hosting a party. I suppose I could be depressed about that, but honestly I'm just relieved.

Are you doing anything for Halloween?

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2015-10-30 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
This is not my Halloween this year, so the kids leave my house around 3:00pm and don't get to come back until Sunday. And most of the people I know are doing things with their kids. So...probably nothing. I have very tentative plans to go to Gaslight.

And I suppose I should buy candy today just in case kids come to my door. I have no idea about the traffic here, but I do know that the neighborhood is full of kids.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-10-30 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
We have Just In Case candy, too. I'll probably bring most of it to work on Monday. But maybe we'll have a few cute kids stop by!

[identity profile] donutgirl.livejournal.com 2015-10-30 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I may be carving jack-o-lanterns tonight? god willing. and tomorrow there is some kind of family "party" which apparently ends at 6pm, lol.

but after spending last year in Taiwan, I'm just excited to be in a place where people decorate their houses and there is candy in the stores and spooky stories on the radio.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-10-30 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well at least you're out of there by 6:00! =D

First class "Dia" work in your avatar!

Thank you! That was actually the first run of that costume. Pics of the second, better version:

Oh, heck yes!!!

I'm wearing my Paramore t-shirt with the sugar skull on it for our taco feed today.

Let the veil thin...

Relieved is hell and gone better than depressed!

I'm taking Drake trick-or-treating for his last (?) time. In theory. I thought last year was his last year, but it appears that 9th grade is about when it ends around here. Not that I'll stop him if he wants to go next year. :)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-10-30 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Have fun!

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2015-10-30 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Nada. Nothing. well, maybe going to check out the LFK version of Jazz downtown (Cajun/NOLA style eatery).
I'm also relieved to not be working on a costume. How did that happen to me?
Instead, I went to Kohl's and found a great simple stretchy skirt to wear with my sweater/leggins combo for work, and a super soft sweater. They have some great stuff on sale for layering, I may be scouting them out at the end of season for the clearance on those kind of skirts/wraps/tops.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-10-30 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Count me in on that clearance shopping time if you want company.

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2015-10-31 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. I know that your shopping is similar to mine. Go, look, decide, buy or not buy.
I went shopping with a couple of women a few weeks ago who had a radically different style.. mooch around for an hour in the same area, move to another, go back and mooch around the previous area, trying to make up their minds. It drove me nuts! :)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-10-31 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh FUCK no. We could probably cover the entire south side of town in about two or three hours.

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2015-10-31 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. Shopping should be a lot more like a search-and-destroy mission.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-11-02 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. I mean, I love shopping, but I don't see the point in lingering.

[identity profile] hdsqrl.livejournal.com 2015-10-30 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Our motorcycle group is hosting a bake sale at the Peculiar Fall Festival tomorrow, so I've made up a batch of fudge to donate to the effort. We'll go hang out with them for a few hours (something funny about scary bikers in black leather shilling cookies and little loaves of banana bread, hey?), and then return home to hand out candy to the kids who come a-knocking.

We thought we had a party to go to, but it turns out the party was last weekend, haha. THANK GOODNESS, f'real. I really just want to lie low in slippers and pajamas and watch something spooky on TV, instead.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-10-30 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That all sounds wonderful! Scary/cuddly bikers are the best.

[identity profile] msmitti.livejournal.com 2015-10-30 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I had plans to go to Rocky Horror tonight with derby peeps, but super crabby so will likely bail. Shirt is on "pumpkin patrol" tomorrow evening to keep kids safe, so I'll be hiding from children since there are a TON of trick or treaters in the neighborhood. They come from all over town--it is madness.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-10-30 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Good call on staying home. I loved RHPS when I was in my 20s, but the thought of seeing it now, two decades later, if I was in anything but an absolutely ebullient mood?

Halloween is Justin's birthday. Today I took a much needed mental health day off work and treated him to breakfast, then we went out to a fancy dinner. Tomorrow we are hanging out with friends and their kids, it's also one of our friend's birthday's, and her kid looooooves Justin. I'm taking along our copy of " What We Do In The Shadows" for the adult hang out portion. Low key thank goodness.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-10-31 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that all sounds great! I hope you have lovely times.

[identity profile] the-themiscyran.livejournal.com 2015-10-31 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I am throwing together a Katniss Everdeen costume to pair with a friends Effie Trinket, and we're going downtown to watch trick or treaters & have dinner.

I did also carve a pumpkin. Having a jack-o-lantern is pretty much the one tradition I can't skip.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-10-31 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I was downtown running errands today and it was lively already! Hope you have a good time.

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2015-10-31 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Going to a Halloween party with the Brit. He's going as a zombie clown and I'm going as a dead ringmaster.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-11-02 02:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hope you had a great time! Did you get any costume pics?

My dead makeup was better at the beginning of the night. At that point, I just looked like I do every morning that I have to get up at 5am.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2015-11-03 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, you kind of look like Dana Scully. Also, that coat is gorgeous. Did you make it?

[identity profile] sherwood21.livejournal.com 2015-11-04 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Yes, I did make it, and I was really pleased with how it turned out.
