Friday and payday
Happy birthday to
fantomas71!
It's the end of the work week, I have money in my account, good weather anticipated for the weekend, and tonight I get to hang out in a hot tub with really hot women. Wow. Life doesn't seem too bad right now. Oh, and another slip down on the scale: 153.4!
Yesterday
0verdrive was kind enough to drive my CRX to Kansas City so I could get my windshield replaced for $100 less than any Lawrence companies charged. So now I can drive the little grape straight into the sun and not be at any more of a disadvantage than the rest of the folks on the road. Hurray! It was seriously hazardous. As far as I know, it was the original (1989) windshield and it was incredibly chipped and scratched. So when the sun hit it straight on, I was pretty much driving blind. Scary. And not at all acceptable for driving back and forth to faire. Now I just need new wiper blades. I <3 my little car.
Reminder to those of you seeing Sellout tomorrow: I seriously doubt I'll be joining the dance revels on Saturday. I'm afraid a full day out at faire is too hard on this old body. While I might survive a couple hours of dancing Saturday night, I know I would be absolutely worthless for my day on Sunday. You all have a fantastic time without me and give my regards to the band, especially Brian and Alan. Thanks.

1. What personality trait in others makes you absolutely mental? Stupidity in all its many forms.
2. What personality trait or characteristic in yourself would you eliminate if you could? Forgetfullness.
3. What about your personality is your secret pride and joy? It's not a secret at all: I'm usually right. I'd say 95% of the time, if I take a stab at answering something, it's the right answer.
4. Is there a trait or characteristic you admire in others that you wish you owned? I wish I had my father's good luck.
5. Fast forward to you as a very senior citizen. What sort of character are you? Not sure. I hope I'm not wearing a red hat and a purple dress. Eccentricity is one thing. Outright fashion offense is another.

1. When you are getting ready to leave your home, what are three things you always do? Check to make sure I have everything I need, get to my car, realize I've forgotten something.
2. What is the most annoying habit that you have? This would depend on who you're asking. The most annoying to me is I grind my teeth. But not many people notice that. Probably my most annoying habit in the eyes of others is that I have an absolutely terrible memory. Don't think that's a habit, but I'm sure it annoys my friends to no end. Sorry, guys.
3. If you could develop a new habit, what would it be? I would like to re-develop my good exercise habits. I had them once, but am having a hard time getting back in the groove.
4. Do you participate in any religious rituals? Haven't done what most people would consider "religious ritual" in a long time. But for me, something as basic as watching the sun rise on a quiet Sunday morning is a spiritual experience.
5. Describe one custom that is unique to your community or culture. I don't think it's unique, but I find it quite amusing how people in this part of the country consider a tornado warning a good excuse for getting drunk on the front porch. Free show!

1. What is the best dessert you've ever had? There's no way I can possibly choose. Tiramisu certainly ranks up there. Indian sweets (gulab jamun, burfi, etc.) are pretty damn fine, too.
2. Is there a dessert that just plain grosses you out? Nothing I've encountered yet. I don't care for fruity ice cream, but I don't find it repugnant.
3. Straight out of the container or with lots of toppings .... tell us how you like your ice cream. Generally, I like crunchy stuff in my ice cream. I'm picky about my ice cream. I prefer frozen custard.
4. Cookie dough, brownie mix, cake batter or the finished products? Finished products.
5. You've just invented a great new dessert .... what's in it and what is it called? Heh. Heh heh heh. smirk Wouldn't you like to know?

Yeah, now I'm really wishing I'd taken Spanish II this semester. It's embarassing how fast you lose it when you don't use it.

Although I feel slightly naughty for watching him compliment you so prettily in Spanish...

I know I'm pretty, ok, really lucky at how well my body holds up at 50 in the energy department. Some of it is good genes and some sheer bloody-minded stubbornness but either way, I'll take it!

That said, Ron has some really good "learn spanish in your car" cds that might help you out!

What I like about both Spanish and French is that you still call people 'Dame' and 'Sire' to this day as a normal manner of address. Also the addition of a formal voice is very, very nice.

I don't know that I would recommend them to anyone though. They are geared for people that are about to be travelling in Spanish speaking countries rather than learning Spanish as a second language. Lot's of useful phrases for travellers, but next to nothing on syntax and grammar. At least not on the first three (of nine) CDs.

mmm...hot tub, can't wait :)

I'm terribly lazy by nature, so the "learn on your own" method has never worked for me. I need to interact with other students. Shame is a great motivator. ;)

Um, no, not really. But thanks for the modesty.

Muchissimas thanks! That good it is to receive these words on the day of my birth of a girl if is contiguous! You do not need to practice nothing. I am sure that beams everything that your beams with the same grace that exists in its smile. I am very outside practices, sure but it is my happiness to speak with you in any possible way. I go to east Olathe night also to practice with doctor Fassbinder and the Mayor of Canterbury... and think much about this day of my cumpleanos on the possibility of hot tub.:)
Heeeee! Wow, amazing that auto-translators are still so paleolithic. Seriously reminds me of the priceless items you can find at http://www.engrish.com/

However, you obviously haven't interacted with Denise much. I shudder to think what she'd do to me if I tried that. At best, she would fall completely out of character, look at me sternly, and say "It is your choice to be here or not, my dear. So either enjoy yourself or shut the fuck up." And then I would feel like I did when I disappointed my father in 7th grade. The horror!

I often say that age is nothing, mileage is everything. I have lately taken to saying that mileage isn't even the problem, it's the speed at which you were driven.
The heaviest part of the miles I carry and certainly most of the speed have come from 7-9 week bursts of insanity over the years, where I have chosen to fuck off caution completely and do everything.
It is the specific application of the adage "yield to the moment for it will not pass this way again".
So, if Sellout is playing, and you got it in you to shake it, do so with your eyes wide open that you will be playing a whore with soreass hips on Sunday...and really if you whine, you'll just have a bunch of wenches pointing and laughing at you for being silly...but believe me, I've done muuuuuuuch sillier things over the years...all in the name of not missing a moment of the fun.
