Happy Stab A Dictator Day!
I have to just admit at this point that yes, I am watching this ridiculous Chinese web drama and yes, I am reading the meta as well as fic, and yes I have fallen outrageously hard for this pairing. To give you some idea of my obsession's growing levels, the last OTP I was this invested in was Benton Fraser and Ray Kowalski, a pairing that I have carried in my heart since the 90s.
I mean, can you blame me:
Thank dogs for the fandom, though, because the show itself really is objectively terrible and the (fan-generated) subtitles don't help. This is a particularly hilarious example:
Although mostly they're just awkward and confusing.
I stick around for the eyefucking, though:
And also things like the fact that there is. a swing. in one guy's. bedroom.
Seriously though, the two leads carry this show amazingly well. They're very VERY good actors with mind-blowing (heh) chemistry and the guts to make a show like this despite China's hostility toward homosexuality and the very real danger that actors are in for not conforming to societal standards.
In other news, I have not made plans to stab any dictators today, but it's still pretty early.
