Something I didn't expect to hear

I wasn't even half listening to NPR this morning when I heard the phrase "musical orgy" come out of the speakers. Really wish I'd been paying more attention.

Had a perfectly lovely time with an old friend K last night. We fell out of contact several years ago when he and his (former) wife split and she moved in with me before going to California. It was wonderful to spend a gloriously tipsy four...five? hours with him yesterday and be reminded of how we bring out the best (and deliciously worst) in each other. Excepting the fact that he has a brain the size of planet (why yes, he is a rocket scientist), we're so very similar. Quite, quite, fun to trade banter and general snarkiness with someone for four...five? hours and enjoy every single minute of it. It's a good thing to hear someone say "I've missed you" and know they mean it. I've missed him, too.

UPDATE: [livejournal.com profile] verminiusrex posted these on his LJ today. Sorry, but I can't look at those without thinking "Put. The Candle. Back."

I misinterpret a lot of what I hear, too. I agree, usually what I hear is much more interesting than what is actually being said. =)

I mishear people all the time, especially when I'm told my total at a store while I'm writing a check. I always look at the register, because about 30% of the time I mishear the amount due.

As for misinterpretations, I can verify that the phrase "musical orgy" was in fact used this morning. Both chernobylred and myself stopped mid-conversations to stare slack-jawed at the radio. ;)

I re-listened to parts of Morning Edition (http://www.npr.org/rundowns/rundown.php?prgDate=22-Sep-2004&prgId=3) but haven't heard the phrase

It was something the local announcer said.

"Put the Candle Back" lol...exactly.

I'm not allowed to have candles. Apparently I spill even fire. :)

See you SOON!

woo-hoo!

I don't think I'll be able to get anything put together to bring with me. Is there anything you need from the store that I can pick up on my way in?

Nope, We're good to go I think. Although I will admit I forgot to get napkins and cups and am planning on using what I found..cups and napkins that say "Butt Ugly Martians"! LOL...I find that to be byeond amusing...just your lovely self will do :)

OK, well I'll see you then! Hopefully I won't get lost on the way to your place quite as badly as I got lost on the way to Angel's...

I'm willing to bet the musical orgy in question was Last Night at the Proms.

Ah! I bet you're right. That was a really good one, too. I listened to it last week sometime.
