write_out let people know that
splix died on Tuesday morning. Probably the people who know (knew?) either of them already heard the news. Very grateful I made the trip to Con*Strict in July to see them both--our last time rooming together. I tried not to actively think about it too much, but the fact was always there, floating in the air around us.
Roses of Picardy was my #1 comfort fic for years. I don’t know how many times I’ve read it, but I always felt better after. It's probably not gonna work for me this time. Thank you,
splix , for being an amazing person and putting beautiful things out into the world. It was an honor and a pleasure to be your friend.

Brian is good, fortunately. Actually too good- I like to have some distance when I'm truly upset about something and his first instinct is to comfort me. He's learned to read my signals better over the years. He and Alex actually got to spend the afternoon together when he was on his Rte 66 trip and went through ABQ, so he has a better idea of just how big this loss is.
I hope you're getting the support you need too. I'm coming out of my fog (and my parents, who have been here for two weeks TWOOOOO WEEEKS, have just left so now my time is more my own) and will be in better touch moving forward.

I've never read Roes of Picardy. I've heard good things and want to try but I'm afraid I'll be too sad? Maybe in a bit. I should start by watching War Horse. I've never seen it.

I've never seen War Horse, either. You really don't need to, imo. It's an incredibly sweet fic, but the very ending might be a little ouchie right now (it's a happy story, but follows them until they're very, very old. Sooo... Maybe take some time before giving it a try.
