Another Andy Rooney post

Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] gamera_spinning!

Best News Evah (at least for today): "After a nice break from the action, sellout is bringing the party back to the jazzhaus this Friday and Saturday, October 22 & 23. As many of you know, Sunnye has moved to Florida. However, she is coming back to celebrate her birthday with sellout and she's bringing her sax with her."

'Scuse me while I do a little dance here at my desk. Yow! I'm definitely going to the Friday night show. Saturday I'll be at a costume party unless I decide to be a totally worthless shithead of a friend and skip out of the party early. Heh...heh? Um, guys? Oh dear. I'm still uncertain of costume for the party. I need to see if I can squeeze into my Catholic Schoolgirl outfit again. I didn't have time to pull together the Aeryn Sun one, dammit.

This test told me:
Your score as a human being is 98.65.
You are a pleasure to be with and a pleasure to be. Your friends do not envy so much as admire you, and you lead your life with grace, honor, and dignity. This site is humbled to have you take a test on it. Which brings one to wonder, what are you doing goofing off on the Internet?

Now some bad news: I'm having to postpone my move date. [livejournal.com profile] roya_spirit and I agree that her place isn't near to being ready for me to move in. I'm hoping for next weekend, but I don't know how many people will be available, it being a weekend for parties and such. Please let me know if you'd be available next weekend to help me move. Thanks and apologies.

Last week I crossed a mile marker in my life. I made a decision that I thought I would never, ever, make. It was a big one. Those of you who know me well will understand exactly how momentous this was and it should give some indication of the drastic new direction my life is going. Last Friday. I ordered. A cell phone. Whoa! Yes, you read that correctly. Basically, I got an offer I couldn't refuse from Working Assets and (most importantly) I get to keep my current phone number. So. I have 30 days with a temporary number to decide if I like the service, and then my old (current) phone number will be transferred to the new phone. If you want to know my temporary number, please email me instead of commenting. I'll send out the number as soon as I have it.

I was packing up my sewing room last night (six boxes of crap and counting) when I stumbled across a notebook of quotes, dreams (two of them!), and other miscellaneous stuff from several years ago. Included in the notebook were several examples of my magnetic poetry creations. Say what you like about the concept, it's the only way I've ever written what I consider to be decent (if a little trite) poetry. I'm not sure what that says about my mental processes/personality, but there you have it. I thought it was particularly approprite considering yesterday's poetry meme that I submit to you some of my very own poetry. No snickering, please.

EDIT: Due to some confusion of a few people, I should note these are all separate little tiny bits of doggerel. It's not one big epic poem.

I always leave dreams behind me
like some delicate chain under my fingers
as though their whispers may produce
a bare and bitter garden

Beneath a drunk moon we dressed
You said shine on a moment love
shadows can rob our life

I will sweat or run for him
but he wants me to sleep easy
A still bed not a frantic road
so I lie here legs & breasts heaving
wanting skin and swimming in blood

After I cry the sea is still
and you swim through the flood
soothing me like a warm sun
your ship never crushed
in my bitter frantic storms

The wind cools only my skin
the lust in my breast is hot
I boil in urges
legs weak
as I lie beneath you
under a spring sun

I love to lie
dazzle
wax elaborate
about a thousand things
like roses
whispers
lips and
tongues
I sacrifice language to desire

lazy gods of fluff and flowers
trip easy
a cat goddess is doing it for you

Ask me after its over
and I will tell you
if it was lust or love

Very nice soul you have laid bare, there.

Delicious...

"Bare and Bitter Garden"

I like it very much.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. Coming from someone who is an excellent wordsmith, that means a lot to me.

[identity profile] fantomas71.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
You do me too much kindness. ;)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_mac_/ 2004-10-19 08:03 am (UTC)(link)

Congrats on the cell phone! I think it was the right choice.

I haven't been able to put together the costume I wanted either, no Mac Elvis this year. After watching the Farscape mini-movie, Mel and I were wondering if it was going to be a pregnant Aeryn Sun. :)

Coolness!

[identity profile] gamera-spinning.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Good luck with the cell phone, thank you for the birthday wishes and Aeryn Sun next year (that will be a hell of a costume).

Re: Coolness!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely Aeryn Sun next year!

Re: Coolness!

[identity profile] skyflame.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Now that's an image I'll keep for the rest of the day. :)

[identity profile] solan-t.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
Those are beautiful!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[identity profile] angelbedwell.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
I have a Catholic Schoolgirl outfit that would fit you. Email me if you want to borrow it.

I loved the poem. *I boil in urges, legs weak, as I lie beneath you, under a spring sun* wonderful!!! Thanks for sharing.

*cough* YOU'RE getting a cell phone! Yaaaaaay! =) Careful with the driving and talking thing.

Talk with you soon.

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
I particularly liked the last of it.

D.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you...that last one has always been my favorite, too. Rather Dorothy Parker-esque.

[identity profile] rougewench.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
I like it in that it is distilled truth laid bare, sparsely.

[identity profile] professormass.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 08:46 am (UTC)(link)

Lovely poem.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
Which one did you like best?

[identity profile] professormass.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 09:10 am (UTC)(link)

The third one. I'm kinda visceral, that way.

[identity profile] skyflame.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
I really like the gist of the poem. Have you thought about breaking it up into a few related (but separate) ones, or even sections within a larger poem? I can see a few possibilities.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
They are all separate ones. The double space indicates a new poem. And I'm not going to finesse them. They're magnetic poetry and that's all they try to be. =)

[identity profile] skyflame.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
Aha. I will look at them through that eye, then. I really really like the first two, just as a quick hit.

[identity profile] skyflame.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
What can you tell us about the group "sellout", btw? I haven't heard of them. (I was a jazz saxophonist in college, so I have a soft spot for the instrument. And girls playing the instrument. ;)

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
They're a cover band. 70s 80s, etc. Great dance band! Website here (http://www.selloutlive.com), but it's pretty lame.

[identity profile] normalcyispasse.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
So, where are Our Heroes of Cover Songs playing?

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
Jazzhaus, baby!!! See you there Friday?

[identity profile] normalcyispasse.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
I do believe so, madam!

[identity profile] stuology.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
Last Friday. I ordered. A cell phone

*choking on my yogurt*

I didn't have time to pull together the Aeryn Sun one, dammit

Completely understandable, so instead of being completly selfish and whining, I'll just be a little selfish and let out a small sigh.

*sigh*

[identity profile] redheadfae.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
*wanting skin and swimming in blood*

oh yeah.

Yay for Sunnye's return!
Yay for your cel phone!
Yay for .. oh, I'll shut up now.

[identity profile] curieuse.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I only scored 69.35% on that quiz but alas. I mean is it SO bad to talk on the cell phone if I only do it on long boring stretches of K-10 on my way to teach piano, and if the only person I call very much is my cute little mother who lives half a country away??

*sigh*

I love your poetry though.

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I love your poetry though.
Really? Wow. Thanks. Coming from an English grad student, that's...huge. Wow.

Don't tell anyone in the department I write Magnetic Poetry, though. ;)

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You're a fine poet (you should try it more when you're not limited to the words in the little magnetic kit!) - you've written what makes good poetry: honest and visceral. Rings true and resonates. Exactly what poetry should do.

My particular favorites:
. The first two lines of the first poem.
. The third poem.
. This line: "I sacrifice language to desire"
. The last poem.

Rock on!
Chris

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
you should try it more when you're not limited to the words in the little magnetic kit!
Actually, I think being limited to those words helps me focus.

[identity profile] mckitterick.livejournal.com 2004-10-21 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Y'know, that's one exercise a lot of poetry-writing teachers use. Plus that's why the form poems (y'know, sestina, villanelle, sonnet, etc.) are so popular, because the writer knows where the limits are.

Wonderfully penned

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[identity profile] tattooedartgirl.livejournal.com 2004-10-19 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I like them all too! and I'm not a poetry person...so that says something!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Wow! Thanks! I give you (and only you!) special permission to use any of them in your collage art. =)

[identity profile] tattooedartgirl.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
oohhhooohhhoohhh!!!(wildly screaming and waving arms in the air, dancing around!)

THANK YOU!!!!!!

Thank you thank you!!!!!!

[identity profile] clevermanka.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
You're very welcome! If you want to credit me, feel free to use my real name. I doubt I'll get many stalkers from purchasers of collage art. ;)

[identity profile] tattooedartgirl.livejournal.com 2004-10-20 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
Just poetry stalkers!!!

Love this:

Reminds me of Cartman. Heh heh. Sorry.

Yes, yet another talent. We are all enriched to know ya.
